Help with Globus Tours
My husband and I are planning a trip to Europe. We've never been there before and are quite overwhelmed thinking it might be better to do a tour. We have decided to pick out a tour or two that we like and price that.... then price a trip that we plan ourselves. From looking at all the tour books, Globus seems to have the tours that have closest to what we're looking for. Has anyone been on the following tours with them that can comment? Thanks!

Globus tours:
-------------
Heart Of Europe - 13 days
Town and Country - 16 days
European Horizons - 19 days
Grand tour - 19 days

Hi, I looked up your tours in my Globus brochure. I would cross off Town and Country immediately because it's loaded with 1 night stops. You'll spend too much time on the road. I love Italy so I don't like European Horizons - only 1 night each in Florence and Venice!

I'd choose either Grand Tour or Heart of Europe from your list. I've done some Globus tours, but only single country ones. There's even quite a bit of coach time in those. Try for as many 2 night stops as you can.

Hey Tara---You have picked my favorite touring company. I have done between 12-15 of them. They give you what they state in the itinerary. Good value, I think. Just like the previous posters have said....really look at each itinerary and see how many days in each hotel/how many days on long road trips, etc. All the info is there, but you must read it (example--see Notre Dame this morning does NOT mean go inside and take a guided tour--it means drive by and see it--that is just one example).
Sorry I can't comment on the particular tours you mentioned. They do Grand Tours to get you acquainted with several countries then you can go back and do your favorites with a "regional" tour. Do NOT take a Cosmos unless you really look at the locations of the hotels (many are out of town with not many tours included).
I too have found Globus closest to the itinerary and price range that I am looking for.
Many tourists don't read the brochures carefully enough and then complain when you are on the bus for several hours or don't visit the INSIDE of a special castle, etc. With Globus, what you see is what you get! Enjoy your tour---I always do.

Tara: I took a Globus Heart of Europe several years ago, can't remember the price but it seemed like a good value. The hotels were nice. The only complaints I would make for my personal tastes are as follows:
I didn't like getting up early every morning to get on the bus on schedule. (I'm not a morning person)

Sometimes the hotels were too far out of town to walk around to things in the evening. (however there were optional additional expense events you could participate in)

Otherwise I think it is a great way to get a feel for Europe on your first trip. Don't let the anti-tour snobs make you feel you have to do it on your own. Once you feel comfortable you can do that the next time.

My tip would be to have your suitcases packed and really to go in the evening so you aren't rushed in the mornings.

Have a good time.
