Thanks all for the recommendations and lively discussion! I ordered the PacSafe CitySafe 200 last night based on positive reviews both here and product review websites. I believe it will be big enough without being too big, have enough nooks and crannies that I can stay somewhat organized, and provide an extra feeling of security.
nytraveler, understand your concerns about these style of purses. I guess that I should have mentioned that I have almost 29 years in the Navy and have travelled all over the world with the Navy, so, believe me, I'm a pretty security-conscious kinda gal. This time, however, I'll be just doing some vacation time with my hubby and didn't want to lug around my usual style of purse, but instead have a more secure style bag as it will just be the two of us.

Let me point out that I do use this Longchamp at home. I travel almost weekly on business. It goes in my suitcase and comes out when I get "whereever" This allows me to comply with the "two" carry on limit. (wallet etc go in the briefcase for the trip)
I don't find the "lack of organization to be that big a hassle. I actually find the "mulitple pockets" to be a bigger hassle as I can rarely remember WHAT I put where However, it does not have small loose stuff in it (with the exception of a cellphone.) Wallet, glasses case, makeup bag that's about it, so it's not a problem finding stuff. If you are the "carry everything you own" and don't do that in little "pouches" or something then I can see it would be an issue!

For sightseeing, I carry 2 purses and my husband holds the zipper "shopping bag" that holds the water, and other miscellaneous travel needs.
My first purse is my favorite and I've used it for all my vacations for the past 10 years. The Coach purse is small and flat and holds passports, cash, credit cards, etc. worn diaganolly under a coat or sweater. I have two different straps for it, leather and nylon. The nylon strap is used for sight seeing so I can adjust it to slip the purse down to my hip, if necessary. The leather is used for a bit nicer events. Both keep my hands free and have the easy on / off claps that Coach is known for.
The other purse is small with a short leather strap, that fits under my arm. The brand doesn't matter. This purse holds the sunglasses, reading glasses, other "things" as may be needed for sightseeing adventures.
Both purses are very light. I never take the Coach off while I'm out (except security checkpoints) and I'm "wearing" the other so I don't lose it either.
As for safety, nytraveler is correct, you have to be aware of your surroundings. I watched a pickpocket go right up to my husband until I screamed for him to protect himself. (I was walking behind him window shopping so the theives didn't know we were together.)
This next trip I'm going to get the security wallet that keeps the magnetic / credit cards safe. Happy safe travels.
