You will certainly find many varying opinions on this board. That being said, I would not devote more than one full day and one night to Bath. I also did not care for Stratford Upon Avon--too much shopping and too little history.

Len, I agree with the above poster that one day and night in Bath is sufficient if you want to maximize your exposure to the area. I thought Glastonbury was fascinating. You might consider combining a trip to Glastonbury with a visit to the small Somerset city of Wells which sports a gorgeous cathedral. Wells is only about 45 minutes from Bath and Glastonbury 20 minutes from Wells. Very doable.

Further to my last post, when we mapped out our very tight itinerary for England this summer, I also wanted to see Glastonbury, Stonehenge, etc. using Bath as a base. We just didn't have time to do it all! We drove from Gatwick to Bath our first day and along the way Stonehenge "appeared". I begged my husband to stop, but he was driving for the first time in England and his nerves were a bit frazzled, so his mission was to simply get to Bath and stay put. So the car stayed put, and we happily explored Bath on foot, but I admit I longed to venture to the "other places" I had dreamed of. By staying put in Bath though, we got the full flavour of the town and the sites and still felt we didn't see everything there was to see. If you decide to limit your stay in Bath to just one day, you should focus on just a couple of sites in the town. The other posters have experience with doing the other sites from Bath, so by all means go for it! I just don't like the idea of rushing around.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I really would like to see at least Castle Combe, Stonehenge and Salsibury on the first day, and then Bath on the second. If we decide that Bath only has several places we really want to see we may drive over to Glastonbury or Wells. Again I am thinking of staying outside Bath at The Manor House near Castle Combe. Any opinions on this place (looks awesome) and do you think this is a good place to see all around Bath? It looks to be very central to all of it.

Your itinerary looks pretty good. I agree that you can see more than Bath in one day. Also Broadway is a good spot to center yourself although Chipping Campden and The Slaughters offer central location and less tourist driven beauty. Hope that helps.

Len, have you ever heard of the Heart of England and the Backbone of England? If not go to: www.hetb.co.uk
and ESPECIALLY: www.the peak-distict.net
The latter is my special recommendation!
