The house of the laughing moon would literally be La Casa della Luna Ridente, or slightly less literally but prettier sounding, La Casa della Luna Allegra - allegro means something like merry, cheerful.

There's a famous Renaissance villa in Tuscany, La Schifanoia -- this always sounded terribly grand to me.
Schifanoia (SKEEfaNOYa) is one of those funny Italian words that combines a verb and a direct object in a single term.
Literally: Chase (or banish) care (or boredom)

I love the fireflies in the Italian vinyards and olive groves in the late spring, and the beautiful word for firefly: la lucciola.
Only problem is the double "c" pronunciation is so different in Italian than English that maybe it would be mispronounced too much...
Anyway, a nice sound in Italian!

starrsville, I'm jealous! I grew up with fireflies but here in the Western US we don't have them. When you are used to them, they are not that big a deal, but how I miss them!
My last two trips to Italy coincided perfectly with the firefly "season"...

annabelle, have you read the fireflies thread? I'll top it if you haven't.
We have LOTS of them! I didn't realize that so many places no longer do.
Also flushed two little spotted deer fawns this afternoon and stopped to watch them decide what to do next. Pretty idyllic

Annabelle, you're right that the name in Italian for a firefly is lucciola but it's also the name for the ladies of the night so hopefully Oklahoma won't be giving that name to her villa or she can expect some pretty strange male visits. LOL

While I'm pondering appropriate names, just a comment to say I prefer 'casa' to villa, as it means both house AND home. Villa seems much more generic mediterranean to me and less 'tuscan' somehow.

Thank you all for the great suggestions (at least most were great!). I am printing out the list now and my husband and I will choose the "winner" over a bottle of wine tonight.
A message to Viajero2: I did not intend to be rude by not acknowledging everyone's suggestions earlier. We were simply dealing with a family crisis and literally had not been back on this board until a few minutes ago. My apologies to all if my lack of response indicated a lack of interest - it certainly did not. Happy weekend to all and I promise to post on Monday and announce the name of our home!
