Another vote for the Dordogne. You simply can't beat it for the awesome scenery and the myriad things to keep people of all ages occupied. And it's not expensive, which is a boon for a family of four. And since you haven't been to France, it's definitely time to go.

Thank you all so very kindly for this font of information. I only went away from the computer for 12 hours and look at the variety of wonderful ideas. I guess it's why I'm having trouble deciding.

They really did love our trip to England and also to Italy. They are typical American kids who are so influenced by the movies they would probably be happy to go to Orlando but we parents want to travel internationally and think it is good to expand their horizons. They actually did pretty well learning a little Italian and the timing was so great because my son was studying ancient Rome through the Renaissance. They are not interested in history and so this really was helpful to his understanding of it.

He is studying Spanish in school so Spain might make sense, especially if we go in April, weatherwise. Personally, I would love to go to France and Germany.... I will print out this thread and let them read it. Then, I think off to the bookstore we will go! It is probably true that any of these will be a good experience if we plan it right and coincide with some local festivals.

Thanks again everyone.

If the kids are so easily influenced by movies, have them watch "Ever After," which wa filmed in the Dordogne - they'll be hooked, and so will you.
