Help! Safe place to leave luggage

I will be going to Italy & France next week for 3 weeks. Where can I safely leave my luggage when I check out of the hotel but my train to my next destination is not until evening? Unfortunately, I didn't think about this when booking my train tickets. I don't want to have to lug it around siteseeing.
Please advise.

In general, most hotels will allow you to keep luggage behind the counter in such a situation. if you are not allowed to do this at your hotel, Just bring your bags to the train station and leave them either in a locker or with an attendant.

I wouldn't assume that all train stations have "left luggage" or lockers, but I've never heard of a hotel or even B&B that wouldn't stash your luggage somewhere on the premises until you are ready to leave town.

Let's see,

you have three choices: 1. Carry it around with you all day 2. Ask the hotel to stash it for you (which they will almost surely do) 3. Store it in a locker at the train station you are departing from.

What else do you need to know?
