I agree with neckervd. Take the train to Florence or Venice but don't do both. It's not always as hot as people say it is in the summer and the Asian tourists haven't started coming with their tour groups yet so the crowds might still be manageable. You could stop in Milan for four hours and see the famous church if you still have time.

Thank you sooo much everyone..

So this is what we are coming up with... Please let me know if it's a good decision and help me finalize everything. Currently I am in a total panic because I can not find a hotel in Switzerland near my cousins that has AC and we have medical conditions that require AC so does my son plus we live in the coldest place in the US, so very heat intolerant.

How does this itinerary, the number of days and transportation look - keeping in mind I am injured and have mobility issues. Also we have two big luggage and 2 carry ons because it's almost 3 weeks, I have medical supplies and souvenirs -- pls lmk thank you sooo much.

Saturday - 12 noon Drive to Toronto flight to Frankfurt then 3 hour layover then flight to Berlin 3 pm Germany time Sunday
Sunday check in and dinner
Monday and Tuesday Tour Berlin
Wednesday Train to Darmestadt to see family Thu, Fri Sat, Sunday or Monday
Sunday or Monday - Leave Darmestadt with train or flight to Geneva, Switzerland (we may have to go direct to Zurich bc the rental car was cheaper there)
Tuesday - Monday (Switzerland) 6 days
Monday or Tuesday leave Switzerland either drive or fly to Florence (we picked Florence)
Stay in Florence until Saturday (leave Saturday)
Since it's once in a lifetime trip for us we added a couple days to account for cancelations and travel in between. This never happens so excited for it.. BUT, really having trouble with finalizing itinerary , transportation and Most importantly about to have a heart attack at these Switzerland hotel prices with NO AC.

Please please help .. 1st please lmk if you know of any options around Chexbres, Vevey for hotels with AC,
2 - how does the itinerary look (keeping in mind I am injured and pretty immobile)
3. what is the best way to transport in between these locations ?

what tools are you using to find aircon?

Without being incorrect can you provide us with the town and rough dates?

I suspect you are running into an issue that you don't understand the European star system

https://treat.com/travel/decoding-th...tem-in-europe/

basicallt 3 star and up will have aircon for most European countries (see details)

So Prealpina (chosen at random from your town) doesn't say it has aircon. I'd guess it does as it is 4 star. Since it is vital drop them a message/email

It looks like it doesn't typically get very hot there (high average temp in August is 78 degrees) and it is cooler in June and July. Perhaps that is why not many hotels have AC.

I went to trip advisor, plugged in AC and found Base Vevey and Grand Hotel du Lac in Vevey. A little further away, the Modern Times Hotel in Saint-Legier-La Chiesaz. Also nearby, Hotel Lakeview Le Rivage Lutry, Royal Plaza Montreux, Aquatis Hotel, Eurotel Montreux and Grand Hotel Suisse Majestic.

Your itinerary looks good. My only suggestion about your itinerary might be to add another day to Berlin. You will be getting over jet lag and may want to tour at a relaxed pace.

Do you require 'real' A/C? The forced air, really chilling types many are used to in the States. If so, that is pretty unlikely except in modern, 'business-type' and international chain hotels. Many European hotels are older buildings, constructed before anyone thought of a/c, or conversions of villas and such. Retrofitted a/c can be pretty wimpy.

@Bilboburglar
July 10-19 need a hotel in Chexbres or Vevey area or anything within 35 min drive. With AC we really need AC, we sleep with 67 F AC, it helps medical conditions my son and I have (pulmonary). Pleaseeee help thanks so much, Also we need a 2 bedroom or 2 separate rooms perferably connecting.

I have been trying to call these hotels all night and it's so hard to get through to them, and the ones I got through to say if my son is big (he is tall and athletic) he would not fit on their roll aways.

I know .... I'm not sure if we can because that would take time away from my other family.

Thank you I will quickly look into these suggestions.

My cousin said it is in the 90's right now and expected to be higher.. we can't even sleep with 75 .. we live in a freezing climate and have pulmonary issues that hinder us with heat and humidity.. I had no idea AC would be this hard. Most of the searches show AC on booking and Expedia when you call them they have No AC.

I am just very surprised that after all the discussion on your other thread about heat, you settled on Florence, with probably the highest humidity possible and it may be most difficult to find a hotel with good air conditioning. I though you were considering Rome, and thinking it was too hot.

I checked temperatures for Chexbres in July. It will reach a high of low 80s for a day or so, but mostly low 70s and much lower at night, so AC may not be needed. You may actually need a blanket instead.
I tried to send a link for the temperature calendar, but could not. Anyway, perhaps your relatives meant Italy, because according to the weather report, it absolutely never reached 90.

Rather than carry clothing for three weeks, take a week’s worth and do laundry once or twice. Even when traveling for a month, we take just a week’s worth of clothes.

I have just looked at Hotels.com for your dates and came up with 18 hotels in Vevey with AC, using the filter function. I did not look at each hotel description to verify however. I tried to post the link, but Fodor's didn't like it - too long perhaps.

Ditto on the packing. We always pack for a week regardless of how long the trip.

These I have verified per their sites have AC:

Modern Times Hotel
Grand Hotel Swiss Majestic
Best Western Plus Hotel Mirabeau

I seem to have made a mistake about the humidity. It is not so humid in July, just hot.

There are also airbnb vacation apartments available in the area around Vevey. If you don't mind making your own food, that might be the way to go.

As for driving, heat and mobility issues, this is my take:

- don't go to Florence because it MAY be hot. Also, you need to do a lot of walking so you may have problems with mobility issues. In addition, do not even consider driving there. Driving into Italian cities is a mess.

- So where to go after Switzerland that is cool? I really don't know. I personally would suggest Venice (even though it's Italy) simply because:
- you can take the train there
- it's a one in a lifetime city
- you should be able to find air-conditioning there
- you can do a boat tour for the day
- you can rent mobility scooters there https://www.accessiblevenice.com/mob...ire-in-venice/

And you can stop off at Verona, take the bus into town and easily roam around the smallish medieval city for a half a day.

I love Venice, but not in July, and do not see how the mobility scooter works with bridges and vaporettos. I can see it as long as you are in one area, but can you use it enough to really get to most places? Can it be taken aboard a vaporetto? I don’t know, but very curious about it.

I see your point. Would Paris be easier? It’s certainly a relatively easy train tide from Geneva.

@biloboburgler - this is the one I really really wanted, but they are charging minimum $900-$1300 per night for the 2 rooms with AC and we just can't afford that on this trip. but I am checking your other suggestions now...Thank YOUUUUUUUU so much I like the ones you sent and reasonable, just no pool to do my physical therapy (I'm injured and it really helps when there is a lot of walking, also love swimming ).. but hey AC is more important.

apparently - the prices are quadrupled according to the hotels bc that week is a Jazz festival

@Sassafrass --- Thank you, it would be but I took my son before for 2 days, his teacher said the best food in Europe is in Italy and that is why he had his heart set on Italy. I may end up kicking myself for this.. bc none of us do well in humidity or heat ... but someone suggested just to pick one and go with it. I think you said my son would travel on his own later.. well I loved tuscany although I went one day off of a cruise and it was January. I just really liked the landscape and cypress trees .. I though we could do some day trips from there. we May still do 2 days in Rome and 2 days in Florence but flights were cheaper out of Florence - not the best flights but still cheaper significantly. Thank YOUUUUUU soooo much for helping me
