Help on Paris Day trip

Hi Everyone.

I'm going to Paris (second trip) at the end of September with 3 girlfriends and we are deciding on a few day trips, please help us! The choices are Chartes, Giverny and Mont St Michel, we will be in Paris only for 5 days and would like to reacquaint ourselves with the city and do 2 day trips.

Thanks a lot!

I've been 9-10 times, and I wouldn't take such a short time in Paris and spend such a large portion of my visit outside of the city...but that's me.

Look at Parisvision and Cityrama. They offer bus tours to these locations and would be the simplest way to visit. If you are feeling bit more adventurous, you can do it on your own, there are local trains to Chartres and Vernon (then shuttle/cab to Giverny). Check the SNCF site for prices and schedule.

I'll let the St Michel experts comment on DIY trips to there.

We drove to MSM so I dont know by train but I think that is a bit far. It is worth seeing though. We drove so I don't know by train how long it takes. How about Fontainbleu. Both Giverny and Fontainbleu are half day trips wich would give you plenty of time to get back to Paris.

Hi Y,

If you haven't been to Paris in the last 5 years, I suggest that you have a lot to catch up on.

I think that you have one daytrip too many.

Actually, I don't think that I would plan any daytrips. If you get bored, you can always hop the train to Chartres, or Auxerre, or Giverny or Strasbourg.

I agree with Ira. Here's what I would do, book nothing now, which is what you would do anyways...you can get tour /train tickets when you are there.

See you how things go...plan a bit beforehand on what you want to do..I think you can easily fill 5 days.

As the days go by, when (if?) you get bored...do a day trip.

Have all of your friends been to Paris? Do ALL of you agree that a couple of day trips are the way to go, or are some of you thinking of staying while the others go?

My apologies I forgot to tell you that we will be in Paris for 3 days then we take the train to Avignon for 5 days and then back to Paris for another 5 nights. All of us have been to Paris before, we were planning to spend the first 3 days visiting museums and wanted to sneak a few day trips if we could, we also want to do it on r own by taking SNCF.

Can you do Chartres and Giverny in one day? If not, which would you suggest we do?

My friends want to spend one day shopping in teh outlet mall so we will go our separate ways as I would like to visit the markets (outdoor) not just for food but antiques too, I'd like to take a souveneir back - ur input is much appreciated.

Thanks
