Help on London airport
After looking at the various airlines that fly from London to Italy (Tuscany area) we have found British Airways to be the cheapest flying from London Gatwick to Pisa. We would then rent a car and drive to the Montalcino area. The question I have is we will be staying in an apt in London near St. James Park and we have been told that Gatwick airport is pretty far away. The flight would leave at 8 a.m. Can anyone suggest a means of transportation to Gatwick airport or are we better off flying out of Heathrow (would have to fly to Rome). Thank you.

From Victoria, the Gatwick Express is about 30 minutes. You'll need to be at Gatwick 2 hrs ahead, so that is 6. I'd plan on catching the 5a train from Victoria, just to allow yourself enough time not to be rushed. The trains run every 15 minutes. I'm not sure the tube will be running that early though, so you may need to arrange a taxi beforehand.

Rather than waste your money in the Gatwick Express, just get the Southern Trains train from Victoria - takes about 5 minutes longer & isa half the price.
BTW the people who told you that LGW is far away should have also told you that with the exception of LCY, ALL the London airports are far away

Thank you for your responses. I will look into the southern trains from Victoria. Looks like we will need an early start that day. Our other alternative is to fly Meridiana Airlines and fly to Florence, but I'm not sure how reliable they are.
