Help on croatia in june
Hi
Just wondered if anyone has any experience of the hotel lapad in dubrovnik? is there car parking available? we'd like to hire a car but are umming and ahhing about whether booking it from the UK is best or if waiting till we get there would be a better option - any suggestions?.
We're hoping to take the car up to split for a day - possibly overnight - anyone have any suggestions for a cheap-ish hotel with car parking in split?
any other ideas on poss places to visit, must sees, restaurants, excursions etc gratefully recieved!
Thanks
Laney

Hi Laneycakes,
I posted a trip report last month. Look up Croatia and Slovenia April trip. We stayed on the other side of Dubrovnik, so can't comment on your hotel. We did take a bus over there. There's a very nice shady little park with a few cafes. You can easily take a bus from that area to the walled city.
We did public transportation, ferrys and such when we traveling on our own. We took a tour the first part.
Consider Trogir as a place to stay instead of Split. It's about 30 minutes away and looks charming, but Split looks like it would be more interesting for getting out and walking in the evening.
Check out Rick Steves' Croatia and Slovenia tape. We saw it the other night on t.v. and it had many of the place we visited and are probably on your list also.
You'll have a great time there.

Laneycakes,
The trip up from Dubrovnik to Split is great. The bus is good, but if you're lucky enough to have a car, I would just head up the coast and check out some of the cute little coastal villages between Makarska and Split. There's plenty of inexpensive, private rooms along the way.

I just returned from a trip which I encluded a visit to Croatia. You may want to include stopping along the coast at the village of Pula and visit the Arena while you are there. The galeto shops will toss the dips in the air for you before landing them in the cone. And of course, the Pivo is nice and cold at the friendly inns.
