I'm going to see a friend in Bournemouth next weekend, and the hotel she recommended would only accept a 2 night booking (I only want to go for 1 night). I don't want to spend a fortune. Can anyone recommend somewhere?

Just an observation ... given its location, with beaches etc., weekends would be prime time, and a hotel permitting a one-night booking has a high likelihood of precluding their booking the room for the other night when travellers want a weekend getaway.

Also, as your friend lives there, she/he would seem to be in the best position to respond to your desires.

That said, perhaps a modest hotel could be booked for two nights at a cost less than a more luxuroius one for one night. That you don't use what you pay for is another issue.

Well as my friend lives there, and has no need to find a hotel, she admits herself that she's not that up on hotels, so I was looking for suggestions from travellers, rather than residents ( I wouldn't have a clue where to suggest staying in London for instance, even though, or because, I live here)

You want a hotel to rent for one night over the Jubilee weekend???? Not likely. I am surprised the recommended hotel doesn't have a 3-night minimum.

Any place that is willing to book for only 1 night over that weekend might be a place to avoid.

Try www.goldenrail.com. They are a UK tour operator with allocation of rooms at hundreds of hotels. You can book just one night, including weekends. Enter details in their search engine under 'Bournemouth'. For w/e of 8/9 June, I have found several vacancies from £42 to £68 per single room b&b. You can book on-line with credit card.
