A second for the Musee Jacquemart Andree—we finally went last time (I think Elvira recommended it). At the foot of rue Mouffetard where it meets rue Monge there is a pretty little square at the St. Medard church where evidently an accordionist appears after church on Sunday and passes out words to music and all sing along. We were too early for the accordionist when we were there (left about 11:30 am), but he appeared later in the week at a little fair on the square. It was truly magical, singing along with everyone, young and old.

We tried to take the Canal St. Martin ride (which we have meant to do several times), but had such a hard time finding the place to catch the boat that we missed it. As we walked down the canal, we couldn’t figure out why so many people rave about it. Maybe someone who has done it can clue me in?

Where are you going to be staying? Le bistrot de la Grille at the corner of rues Mabillon and Guisarde near St. Sulpice is a fun neighborhood kind of place with a wide selection on the prix fixe menu. I must disagree with Aux Charpentiers: we ate there when we found Grille closed and I thought it was awful—I ordered veau a la crème or some such and it appeared without a single garnish: slab (not escalope) of white meat, covered with a white sauce, on a white plate. It was so unappetizing looking, it didn’t matter how it tasted. I guess it would have been perfect for the Atkins diet.

Thanks, Capo/Julie, for Viaduc des Arts. And, thanks, St. Cirq, for the Isle des Impressionistes. I will definitely put them on my list!

We were taking a picture of the plaque at the Hotel of York on rue de l’Universite marking the place where Franklin, Jay et al signed the definitive peace treaty with England, and a passing older man asked what it was. He had never seen it, but, as he said, "In Paris there’s always something still to see."
Thanks Sue [and the otehrs who have posted]! I guess I'll have to triple my stay to see everything you have suggested.
I'll be staying in the rue Cler/Invalides area -- it's worked well for us in the past -- I'll see what it's like "solo"
The fun with the St. Martin's Canal trip is watching Paris go by as well as the activity at each of the locks you pass through. It's also nice just to SIT for 3 hours and have the world move, rather than the other wayaround Here are some of my pictures of our trip way back in 1992: http://www.geocities.com/travelswith...is92/canal.htm
