Oh, starrsville, I knew I liked you for a reason.

I want my ashes scattered beneath the pastry counter at Laduree, Rue Royale location!

Aside from all that Laduree has to offer, I would suggest you not miss pear tarts with almond (is it the crust or a layer of cream that the almond is in? I forget...), Berthillon ice cream behind Notre Dame (dark chocolate, please!) and something called a Congolese, if you are up for something over the top. It's got raspberry and coconut and chocolate. I once wandered the streets of Paris my last afternoon there in search of just one more!

Amy- The chocolatier you on Ile St. Louis is called Cacao et Chocolate. They also have stores in St. Germain des Pres and the Marais. I love their chocolates! I always bring back half a duffel bag full for gifts for friends.

Underhill - I've been to Paul's, but never had a hot chocolate. Is it really better than Angeline's - which I think of as heaven in a cup.

I also love Laduree. The other half of my duffel is filled with Laduree macaroons for my children. My kids would rather have these macaroons than toys - which, for a 4 year old, says alot. When we lived in Paris, we sampled macaroons everywhere, but none could hold a candle to Laduree. You must try these!

My favorite for macarons is Pierre Hermes. The shop is unique, I thought at first is was a jewelry store. A box of assorted ones is a wonderful gift.

Laduree--as many as you can carry out (because you will be through most of them before you make it 10 steps...)

Benitakaren: I am mad for the paves at Michel Chadon, and I wouldn't dream of Paris without getting a few. I never brought them home, though. Guess I'll have to try that.

Dallyou is a very good patisserie and they have a croissant-thingy called Delice de Pistache that is well worth seeking out.

GardenKin- Did you take David Lebovitz's chocolate tour? I like his website. Thought I'd pass on a good point he makes (unrelated to chocolate).

My indulgences in Paris always include numerous tarte du citrons, tarte du pommes, Palmiers, tarte tartins, and of course Laudree macaroons, eclairs, creme puffs, anything with almonds, and almost everything else that I see in patisserie windows as I walk by ..... very very slowly. I'm not a chocolate person, but DH more than eats my share and his too.

I always bring home macaroons and pastries - not in a box, but on my hips.

Lauricelli - would I jest about sugar????

GardenKim - David Lebovitz's chocolate tour sounds right up our alley, but unfortunately, they are not offering them during our stay. They do, however, offer the market tour. Have you tried that one?

Has anyone tried the market tour? It sounds like a nice glimpse into French life, but does it tell us things we don't learn on our own by visiting?

Chocolate lovers who will be lucky to be in Paris Oct. 28 to Nov.1 to enjoy the chocolate expo, an entire exhibit of these goodies in all shapes sizes, flavors.

My favourite shop for macaroons is Sadaharu Aoki. His macaroons come in different flavours including green tea and yuzu citron. Also fantastic green tea eclairs. A concession in Galerie Lafayette Gourmet.

Agree with Paul. My favourite is the apple lattice.

I totally agree with ALL of the above!!! I love all the Paris "sweets."

I had the most wonderful pastry when in Paris in July at Laduree on the corner of Rue Bonaparte and Rue Jacob. It was a "Religeuse Rose" (hope I'm spelling correctly) and was the most unusual and delicious pastry I've had the opportunity to consume. It was a beautiful pink creation, the pastry cream of which had the flavor of roses and also included very large raspberries in the rose-flavored pastry creme! I'm still in Heaven!!!

I agree with all the Laduree fans, but must also say we've had wonderful times a Gerard Mulot in the 6th. Also, we loved the little cookies (sorry can't remember their name) at the famous bread shop Poilane. Poilane was wonderful when my daughter married they sent a beautiful loaf by Fed-Ex for her reception. It was decorated with doves, flowers, their wedding date, etc. While they have more bread the sweets, what they have is terrific.
