You may not be doing much outside dining in Provence in October. We were in there in early Oct '99 and had to scrape ice off the windshield in the mornings. We only go in June & early July now. This year, however, we did not dine outside in early June.

Like I've stated many times, Provence is best when the lavender is blooming.

Hi. My advice is go in September. We were in Paris this past July and it was very crowded probably much like Disney World during March break kind of busy. I plan to go back to Paris many times and we have decided to go in the fall when the weather is a little more agreeable and less crowds. Remember no air conditioning in the stores, museums etc. Good luck...ptm

We've been to Paris and South 5 times in Sept--wouldn't go any other time. "Auberge de Cassagne" in Le Pontet, just outside of Avignon was a wonderful hotel and restaurant. We enjoyed Aix, Gordes,Isle sur Sorgue,and our favorite was Tourrettes-sur-Loupe.

Paris is the best in Sept. Cool until noon,sunny and warm in afternoon,and warm at night, I always pack a light raincoat and have never used it.

Favorite restaurants in Paris(not expensive)--"Marco Polo", Rue de Conde near Odeon left bank, "Sorza" and "Fleur en Isle", on I'le Saint Louis, and "Au Bougnat", Rue Chanoinesse 2 blocks from Notre Dame.

lots of restaurants are closed in October and some shops only open week-ends in Provence at that time.

I agree about Paris in Sept - but have you been to Provence any other time, other than Sept??? In Lavender & Sunflower blooming season?? - when the days are long.....
