I'm looking for a charming, moderate price hotel for my husband and I. Does anyone have opinions, comments or feedback on these hotels, regarding location, coziness, staff, room size/ bath room size, proximity to cafes, etc.???

After the scouring the web and this forum.......here our the choices, based on availabilty and a budget of under 200E per night:

Relais du Louvre: Std Dbl 150E (street view) or 190E (courtyard view)
Hotel Henri IV Rive Gauche: Std Dbl 167E
Au Manor St Germain des pres: Std Dbl 168E or Sup Dbl 205E
Millesime: Std Dbl 185E or Sup Dbl 205E
Fleurie: Std Dbl 190E
Relais St. Germain des pres: Std Dbl205E

Thanks for the help! BTW, this is our first stay in Paris. We've been once before but just for the day.

I just read about one today in the NY Times located in the 1st that looks excellent for the price as well as its other hotel in St Germain de Pres.

The Hotel Therese and the Verneuil look very nice. I sent an inquiry to the Verneuil regarding availability and price.

It would be nice to hear from someone who has stayed at these hotels.

We plan to stay at Hotel Henri IV May 24-31. One reason we decided on it was that reviews in Trip Advisor were outstanding. We have not been there but my niece (btewalt) has and said this was also a great location. Let me know what you decide.

If you choose the Verneuil reserve a deluxe double room. I stayed on two separate occasions in one standard double and one deluxe double and while the deluxe double rooms are not huge (I estimate they're about +/- 16 sq. m.)they do have space to stretch out and relax whereas the standard double rooms are very confining. To give you an idea about how tiny the standard double rooms are, the bed takes up about 80% of the room and the bathroom is almost as large as the bedroom.

I suggest requesting deluxe double rooms #402, #302, and if you like light the top floor room #502.

Be aware that the elevator does not operate from the ground floor/lobby area. You must walk up approximately 10 steps to get to it.

Location of the Verneuil is handy to walking over to the Musee d' Orsay and it's just a few blocks from Blvd. St. Germain and rue de Buci. One of the best chocolatiers, Debauve et Gallais, is just a couple of blocks away, Serge Gainsbourg's perpetually grafittied home is across the street from the hotel, and the rue Bonaparte branch of Laduree patisserie is also a few blocks away.

I've never stayed at the Millesime but have walked past the hotel many times. It appears to be very inviting and warm. The street that it is located on is rue Jacob and it's a very nice, quiet street that has many antique and fabric shops and boutiques. Laduree is nearby too.

I don't know about the other hotels but have read only good things about them except for Relais du Louvre which has very petite for Paris double rooms.

BTW, regarding the Verneuil any room number ending in '02' represents a deluxe double room whereas '01' represents a standard double room.

Sorry for the p.s. again but I realized you're visiting in June. You may or may not encounter very hot temperatures but it would be (in my opinion) good to have that choice. If you do select the Verneuil only the deluxe rooms have a/c.

Regarding Au Manoir St.G I have seen dramatic differences in reviews between their standard and deluxe rooms in which the standard is the pits (very,very small) and the deluxe are the greatest.There are choices in the catagories of rates and the selection of Best Rates can make a significant differencein price.

I heard back from the Verneuil, for our 3 nights in June they only have the std dbl available the 1st night, then we could move to the dxl dbl for the other 2 nights. I'm not crazy about this idea. With only 3 nights I don't think we want to move rooms. My husband will want AC too. He's always warm!

Henri VI has the best rate @167E and the reviews are good. Maybe we'll just book that hotel. We could save the money for a more pricey hotel in Provence or the Riviera, where we're headed after Paris.

How about the Fleurie? I've read one negative post/review. Anyone else have a comment on the Millesime? Both of these hotels seem to be in very good locations.

Any thoughts on the Relais du Louvre? It looks charming, gets good reviews. Would we be happier in the St. Germain area?

Sounds like our trips are very similar. We are going May 23 to Paris (Henri IV Rue Gauche) 8 nights, then Provence 4 nights, and 4 nights Riviera - Beau Site in Cap Antibes. Where are staying in Provence? We have 2 nights in Gordes booked but are still looking for St. Remy and Aix. What are your plans? Maybe we will see you there.

You might also consider the Brighton Hotel on Rue de Rivoli - very near the Louvre, across the street from the Tuileries, walking distance to Musee d'Orsay, Place Vendome, Place de la Concorde, etc. It has gotten very good reviews here and at TripAdvisor.com.

A double room with a view (i.e., Tuileries Garden view as well as Louvre, Musee d'Orsay, Eiffel Tower, etc.) cost 170 Euros/night.

Thanks to everyone for the replies so far. I've spent some time on tripadvisor and I'm leaning towards a Sup dbl @ Millesime (205E)or the Std dbl @ Henry IV (167E). I like the price of the Henry (of course) but I prefer the location of the Millesime. I looked at the Madison, which seems very popular, but their prices are even higher, 230E and up.

The Verneuil seemed just right but I don't want to change rooms for such a short stay.

Sebina-Our travel dates are:
Arrive Paris June 5th, depart from Nice June 16th.
We are thinking of basing ourselves in St. Remy then either St. Paul de Vence OR Villefranche. We fly out of Nice.

In St. Remy I've looked at:

Hotel Chateau des Alpilles, 250E

We stayed at the Millesime in late April,2004 and just loved the hotel. We had a superior double and it was very large. The soundproofing and double glazed windows kept the room very quiet. The airconditioning was excellent. The bathroom was large and almost luxurious. All the staff were helpful and firendly. I plan to stay there again and recommend it very highly. By the way, the Rue Jacob is a beautiful, well located street.

My wife and I have stayed at both several time. Pas des Calais is steps from blvd Sainte Germaine and famous restaurants and shopping.

OK, I booked a Superior Dbl (205E) at The Millesime. It looked like a charming place with a good location, nice size rooms and a lovely patio that we'll be able to enjoy in June plus good reviews too. And my head was spinning with hotels choices! It was hard to turn down the Henry IV, specially with the good reviews and for the price.

One hotel down, two to go. Now I have to choose our Provence and Riviera hotels. Thinking 4 nights St. Remy and 3 nights St. Paul de Vence. Any thoughts??

Should we do 4 nights Paris/3 nights St. Remy instead? With travel days we'll really only have 2 full days in Paris.

I've stayed at the Relais du Louvre and enjoyed it very much. Particularly the location... across the street is the St Germain l'Auxerrois church; the Louvre is right there, a great restaurant, LeFumoir, up Chaligny Blvd. to Rue Rivoli, turn left cross the beautiful Pont Neuf ... and you're in St. Germain de Pres
The staff at this little hotel are wonderful.
I'll stay there again in a New York minute...
You'll be very happy. With this little hotel as the "hub" of the wheel, I could go anywhere!! ..almost did

I am returning to the Millesime this May for the 3rd time. I considered making a change but the Millesime was such a delightful place to stay that I just went with it again. The street is lively, yet quiet and we were able to walk almost everywhere from the hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful and the superior rooms were comfortable and quiet, with lovely, large bathrooms. I suggest you look into the package the Millesime offers which includes airport transportation (one way), breakfast and some other extras. Very good value. I will also be heading down to Provence, staying at the Chateau Alpilles, which I see is on your list of possibilities. It was a tough choice with several wonderful sounding places to choose from. I am hoping Ch. Alpilles is worth the money - it looks lovely and gets great reviews.

Four nights in St-Rémy will allow you to visit Les Baux, the Alpilles villages, Arles, the Camargue, the Pont du Gard, and Avignon. We liked the Domaine de Valmouriane, which has an enclosed parking lot that is locked at night. The downstairs rooms have their own small patios; the pool is glamorous, and the grounds are cool and spacious. The dining room is excellent.

What do you want to see around Vence?--Oh; I think you meant St-Paul-de-Vence. There you might consider staying at Le Hameau, a lovely little inn set in an orange grov; it's just down the hill from St-Paul. All the rooms are different, set in a number of buildings. It's our favorite place in Provence. There's an "infinity" pool with a view out to the Mediterranean, an enclosed parking lot with a gate, and a charming little patio for breakfast if you don't want to have it in your room. If you choose a front room in the building where reception is located you'll have a loggia with a great view. The inn has a/c.

Thanks again everyone. As mentioned, I decided on the Millesime and booked a sup room, so I'm very glad to read the continued positive comments. The hotel sounds like just what we were looking for in a reasonably priced Paris hotel.

I think we'll stick with the original plan of 3 nights Paris/4 nights St. Remy/3 nights St. Paul. I'm sure we'll wish we had a week in each place, but we'll be back.

For St. Remy, I've booked La Maison de Bournissac, a few minutes outside town. There were not a lot of reviews but what I did find was postive. I liked what I saw on their web site and I found a nice write up in Travel & Leisure Mag. too. The price (165E) was attractive as well.

For St. Paul de Vence, I booked Hotel Le Saint Paul. This was our splurge hotel at 280E for a superior room. I liked the idea of a hotel in town, since we'll have 4 nights in the countryside at Bournissac. I've read that St. Paul can be crowded with tourists mid-day. Maybe we should plan to spend the day touring and enjoy St. Paul in the morning and evening.

I have a question about our drive from St. Remy to St. Paul. It will be a Monday. The plan would be to stop along the way, maybe in Aix. However, much of what I've read so far sounds like we'll find many things closed in Aix on Monday. Should we stop someplace else? where?
