Help - Italian Court Blocked Ryan Air Flights

Apparently an Italian Court has blocked Ryan Air from flying between Alghero [Sardinia] and Rome.

The good news is that Ryan Air are appealing to the European Courts because this is an anti-competition sanction. Who knows how long that will take.........

My daughter and I need to fly from Alghero to Rome on 10th September then on to Sorrento and I think the only other option is Air One at about 100E per person compared to 10E with Ryan Air.

I think swimming lessons may be called for.......

That's a lot to ask of a swimming instructor... if you're only offering 90 euro!

wink...

Best wishes,

Rex

Rex love the humour.

But seriously with the very tight budget we are on, another 180E [almost $400 NZ] for the two of us if quite a chunk out of our budget.

I am just hoping that Ryan Air wins the appeal before September.

Jan - I'll be interested to see the outcome of this (- Ryanair have recently started one or two other internal flights within Italy).

Alitalia can't hack the competition, that's for sure ...

It would be an interesting court case. Ryanair has come into difficulties flying into other European airports as well. Some were effectively subsidising Ryanair to fly into their region.

Don't get me wrong, I love Ryanair - it lead the way in bringing airfares down to levels where I can afford to fly frequently. Ryanair does have a record that could be termed "anti competitive". When the airline Buzz set up a hub in Bournemouth, UK - ryanair immediately brought in it's own plans for the same routes - undercutting buzz by some distance. Buzz then collapsed, and needless to say, Ryanair cancelled evry flight it had planned.

Check carefully whether the difference in the real final fare is that large. Ryanair offers low prices up front, but that's before airport taxes and other fees. Even the "zero cents" fares in the end are never lower than 30 euros each, in my experience, though this may vary depending where you're flying.

So if your 100 euro option already includes those fees, the difference may not be that large.

Sorry for the possible bad news...

I wouldn't count on this mess being sorted out before you need to fly, so I'd make other arrangements. I do think that Ryanair is being unfairly and ridiculously attacked by major airlines, as in this article:

FYI, using Ryan Aire and their associated website for hotel rooms...I want to THANK American Express's Leslie Berry --She saved me over 50% off RYAN aire website Ireland room rates!!!

This may be a great cheap airline, but they are impossible to reach via email or phone from the US...if you have any issues, you might as well write it off.

Ryan Aire’s hotel site www.needahotel.com quoted me $672 for two nights at the same hotel in Ireland attached ($335 per night) that American Express Platinum was able to get for me for ONLY $210 per night, a savings of over $252!

I want to thank American Express Platinum, because they always come through for me!

Ryan Aire is impossible to contact from the US via email or fax or phone…they put you on hold forever

Many Blessings
