>>with Beefeaters in costume<<
Not a criticism but just to let you know . . . those are not 'costumes'. They are real military uniforms (all Yeoman Warders are retired NCO's and the Tower is an official posting)

<<A real castle with Beefeaters in costume>>
Oh dear L-rd. They don't do bloody tricks for you.
Each Yeoman Warder has served the UK or Commonwealth in the armed forces for more than two decades and done so with honor. Each must be a former senior non-commissioned officer or petty officer who has received the Long Service and Good Conduct medal.
I'm sure Moira Cameron would love to hear you call her uniform a costume.
smh.

Trust me -- it can be a lot colder than that in Edinburgh in late October (or in August for that matter)>
could be but I was talking about averages and seems was right on: avghi Oct 55 F- avg low 45F - avg temp 50 F-just like I said.
How much colder can it get- OP asked about really low temps?

To say it may get much colder well that is not the point but what to expect on an average.

. . . since you likely haven't been there in October . . . And 'averages' mean absolutely NOTHING in the UK. Plus - to get those averages pretty much half the days have to be colder/warmer
I was in Edinburgh the same week one year apart - and there was a 25 degree/ 1 inch of rain difference.

The 'fact' is that normally it will not be 'extremely cold'in Edinburgh in October- right jan dear?
Or do you say prepare for ice and snow?
Not sure what OP means by extremely cold but to me it means even colder than 25- which may be a low for the day but it would probably also be much warmer that day.
Janis thinks the OP should stay away from Edinburgh if they don't want to maybe experience extreme cold - I'll say that is remote so have no fear of it - go for Edinburgh if you want - do not be scared away by such horrid weather stories.
And that's the point - unlikely to be extremely cold despite janis' warnings to the contrary.

Uh -- no, I actually suggested Edinburgh up thread.
>>normally it will not be 'extremely cold' in Edinburgh in October- right jan dear?<<
No -- wrong. It is JUST as likely to be freezing as to be nice. It can be freezing w/ sleet . . . in the middle of summer. And in October that is much more likely. The 'average' is in the low 50's but just based on the averages, as many days are 40 as 50 as 60 . . .
It is a gorgeous city -- but it is also very far north and is generally pretty darned cold.
janisj - who has been to Edinburgh probably 30+ times and in every month of the year (except, I <i>think</i> February)
Now let's quit hijacking the thread w/ silliness about 'average' temps . . .

>>7th &8th -legoland windsor<<
You won't really need two days in Windsor . . . unless you simply want a down/relaxing day, which s OK too. You could do Windsor in the morning, have lunch and then head to Legoland in the afternoon.
>>Also which are the must see places for children in that time duration.<<
The Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, any/all of the parks, the Princess Diana playground in Kensington Gardens, the Natural History Museum (including dinosaurs), the British Museum (including mummies), an afternoon tea, a ride in a London taxi w/ the jump seat (sounds naff, but every child I've taken to London has though that was neat), a ride upstairs on a double decker bus.

OK -- you'll need to give us links since some of those don't make sense.
Greenwich is a great excursion -- but landing a jumbo jet or tour of the universe? Glass making in Bath? Bath Skyline?
Are you by any chance looking at sites on the London Pass or some tour company?
There are more than enough 'real' sites in the UK -- no need to go to made up ones.
