Help finding Munich hotel with room for family of 4?
I'm trying to find an upscale hotel in Munich within walking distance to the city center, that will accommodate 2 adults and 2 children, preferably one bedroom separate from the kids. Any ideas? It seems like there are no rooms for families.

Ordinarily I would recommend the Platzl but it does not have quad rooms so you would have to book two adjoining doubles. Otherwise it meets your requirements and has a great breakfast as well.
Now, you could try the Mandarin oriental which is, I think, overpriced.

In older hotels, rooms tend to be smaller, especially in Europe. Some hotels do offer rooms with connecting doors and if it's a family, there might even be some discount on the second room. Booking.com is a good place to find something. Is Sofitel Munich Bayerpost upscale enough for you? Google it. They offer 50% off the second room.

Sofitel Munich Bayerpost and Le Meridien Munich? They are both train station hotels and across a street from each other. Unless you consider the Munich main train station as the city center, both are about one mile to the Marienplatz. You can also get there easily by U-Bahn or S-Bahn. The area around the station is a modern area lacking in charm.

Budget is ideally $600/night or less for a room that accommodates 4 people. It sounds like the Meridien and Sofitel are both near the train station and farther away from Marienplatz than I wanted, but the hotels close to Marienplatz seem to be unable to accommodate a family 0f 4, with the exception of the very expensive luxury hotels like the Bayerischerhof and the Mandarin, whose suites exceed my budget. Any other suggestions?
I thought of renting a 2 bedroom apartment, but they all seem far away and would not give me the German language assistance I would need from a hotel concierge. Thoughts?

Just time for a very quick comment . . . I think you'll find most anyone you'll encounter in the hospitality industry, tourist sites, restaurants, shops, etc will speak English as well as you do.
For a family of 4 IMO renting a flat would be a great option.

I have stayed at the Meridien and it is a decent 4- star type hotel. Location next to the train station makes train trips easy. Tours also depart from the train station and transport to the airport also simple. No charm to the location but I think it is safe. I seem to recall that the walk to the city center to be around 15 minutes for an adult.
