Help! Deciding between Castelsardo or Cagliari

Hello Fodors Friends:

My husband and I are planning a trip to Sardinia in July. We will have 8 nights. We are flying into Olbia, staying in Porto Cervo 3 nights, 2 nights Castlesardo and 2 nights in Ogliastra and 1 night in Olbia before we fly out of the Olbia airport. Will I be missing too much if we skip Cagliara? Is it worth revising our itinerary to make it down that way?

Please let me know your thoughts!

Thanks.

Hi
Your itinerary is very good, skip Cagliari without problems! It's 3 hours of car from olbia and it isn't so interesting. If you want to visit an other nice city you can go to alghero from castelsardo. Alghero is called the little barcelona. And if you have time, you could visit ogluastra mountains, with real sardinian villages.
I'm sure you will have a wonderful holiday in sardinia. If you need more advices, ask here!

The best thing at Cagliari is the archeological museum. Cagliari can be used as a base for the visit of Barumini, Isili, Tharros, Pula, Villasimius.
If your are not intrested in these places, there is no need to go to Cagliari.
