hi,we're planning to tour europe the whole month of June 2006 and have allotted the ff no. of days per city/country:
1st stop: amsterdam 2 days
paris 3 days
spain 7 days (madrid, barcelona)
monaco 4 days (monte carlo, nice, cannes)
italy 6 days (florence, venice, rome)
budapest 1-2 days
vienna 1 day
prague 4 days
can anyone advise if this is at all possible? our main concern is we want to travel by train and we're having a hard time looking for train schedules and fares.

i look forward to anyone's opinion abt. this trip. thanks!

You really should re-post as suggested above. Meanwhile a train site is http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/e This works for most of Europe for finding trains. Finding prices is more difficult. In general, I think you are trying to go too fast and won't see very much anywhere, except train stations, perhaps. I don't think you are realizing how long it will take to get from one place to another, but you will realize that after you look up the above train site. Good luck with your planning.

Your itinerary sounds exhausting to me unless you are doing a study of the interior of European trains.

You will need two months to see all that properly. I think you will be rushed and very disappointed because of the distance you will be traveling. I would go Amsterdam, Paris, Monaco, Florence, Venice, Budapest, Vienna, Prague. And that would be flying the European Budget airlines from Amsterdam to Paris, Paris Monaco, Monaco to Florence.

edb, maybe you could repost under a title like "6/06 Can I see all of Europe in 1 month?" That certainly will get the best of the tour planners seeing your post?
I think its too much travel as well and not enough seeing; but what is your heart's absolute "must sees"?

Yes, your title is useless, but then so is your itinerary. (sorry, I know you are brand new here and I should be more gentle w/ you, but in this case you <b>really</b> need a wake up call)

You want to visit 8 countries and 13 cities in 27 days. Just not reasonable.

You need to factor in that every single time you move from one city to the next you lose between 1/2 and a full day. So evn just calculating 1/2 a day each time your 27 days is now down to 21 days. Then subtract the first and last days -- the first day is a major jet lag fog for lots of folks, and the last day you are packing and getting out to the airport. So 19 full sightseeing days is all you have.

Now you <i>could</i> solve this problem byt taking night trains (sleep through the city to city transfer) -- but some people can't sleep on trains so I wouldn't recommend more than one or two night trains.

So 1) read some of the threads on here about multi-country itineraries to give you some ideas

and 2) re-post after you have a better handle on what you'd like to do.

I agree with what everyone said

For example, you've got 4 days based in Monaco to see a tiny bit of one country, and then 6 days for &quot;Italy&quot;, when any one of those Italian cities could use a minimum of 4 days just to see a selection of the basics.

3 days in Paris, 5 days in central Europe, long hauls from your other stops, just to spend inadquate time.

Consider, if you must, booking a tour that covers all or most of these places. You'll still be spending most of your time on buses and trains, but at least the tour will be organized to handle your luggage and as effeciently as possible to get you from one place to another, and they usually include city tours (often on buses, again) to let you see some of the highlights.
Even as I type this, it sounds awful to me.

Or eliminate a couple of countries.
With wanting to see some of the highlights of an entire continent, you'd have to consider doing without the 4 days in the south of France, or, skip Italy, or, skip central Europe (Prague and Vienna.) One day each in Vienna and Budapest is not at all worth the effort, it's just a seen-it, done-it, and not &quot;done-it&quot; well.

Oh, I forgot about Amsterdam. that's out of the way as well.

IF I were planning a long trip of approx 28 days, this is how I might think about it (order might change, depending on where it's easier for you to fly into and home from):

Spain 7 days
Amsterdam 3 days
Paris 6 days
Monaco and Provence (7 days)
Venice 5 days

Or
Paris 5 days
Prague 3 days
Budapest 3 days
Vienna 4 days
Venice 3 days
Florence 5 days (with a daytrip)
Rome 5 days (with a daytrip)

These are just suggestions, I haven't worked out the logistics of getting from one place to another

Nit Picking: Touring Europe; Ireland to the Ural Mountains? Consider hiring a van and driver/guide.

don't use monaco as a base to see cote d'azur. it's quite boring. also, cannes is not one of the better places to visit unless you have a real reason. i think these place do not live up to the images that many people have of them.

nice is a much better choice of base for many reasons (incl transport links). once you do some research on what you want in this area you can determine the best villages to visit here.

some more random comments:
it's a waste to go anywhere for 1 day (not sure if you mean one night or literally just the day). even 2 days (1 night) is a waste. by the time you get settled and orientated, it's time to leave.

trains in europe are expensive and you will blow a lot of money moving around like that...and just staying such a short time. when you consider the transport costs and everything else, that one day in vienna(for example) can cost you big money.

also, trains are not very fast when you consider the amount of ground you are planning to cover.

with that schedule, you will spend a lot of money and time and not really see all that much...and experience even less.
