Help - Croatia and S. Germany
Not much time to plan because we leave for Geneva (business trip) in 5 days! After the business portion we now have 9 days for travel (totally unplanned!). Been reading the Fodor reports on Croatia tonight and, wow, sounds great. Also wanted to check out Oktoberfest in Munich before flying out of Zurich at end of the 9 days. Thought we might rent a car our of Zurich and drive to Croatia, back to Germany (Bavaria) and then return car to Zurich in Switzerland for flight home to Canada.
Please offer suggestions:
1. car rental out of Zurich that would allow entry into Croatia (Hertz doesn't).
2. driving times to get from Zurich into Croatia and then feasible times to get south to Dubrovnik and see some "must sees" along route.
3. drive back to Munich for a few days in Bavaria and then back to Zurich for flight home.
Other more practical option might be to fly from Geneva to Dubovnik (if possible) and then one way car rental with drop off "up north" in Zagreb or wherever else we could get a bargain flight to Zurich. Then do another car rental to get to Munich, return to Zurich.
Need help with cheap airlines.
Sorry about the long message but intrigue about seeing Croatia has me in a panic to see if I can pull this off.

You can get all of the driving details at www.viamichelin.com. You should also take a look at www.europebyair.com. They have low cost flights from Zurich to several places in Croatia. IMO 9 days is not nearly enough if you plan to drive everywhere. Flying or the train would be much more feasible and less costly.

Jeff, thanks very much for the air reference. Makes me realize flying into and out of Croatia is the ONLY feasible way to do this out of Zurich in our tight 9 day window. Checking on flights now - prices are great.

There are overnight trains from München to Ljubljana, Zagreb and Rijeka, and from Zürich to Ljubljana and Zagreb. If you're short of time, an overnight train will waste less time than flying or driving, because you'll travel whilst sleeping.

Thanks, Geoff, I'm having trouble with some flight availability so perhaps should consider overnight train travel as a viable option. We want to get to Dubrovnik by some means other than driving and then rent a car and travel Croatia south to north dropping the car off in a city that we can fly or train back to Zurich or Munich.
