I would recommend the Hotel Zum Ritter. It is an historic building a few feet from the cathedral in the center of Heidelberg. It is a lovely place - very atmospheric, and not terribly expensive. You can drive to the hotel with your baggage, but must park a block or two away. The center of town is a pedestrian area. Gute Reise!

Agree with the recommendation for the Zum Ritter. If you want to go first class try the Europa. Rooms in the original section have old world charm. There is underground parking in a safe public lot right next to the hotel. Both hotels are downtown and within walking distance of points of interest. Underground parking is readily available all over the downtown area but be careful to follow the rules. If you can, get a good map of the city in advance and be sure you know how to drive to your hotel. Heidelberg is a wonderful place. Spent five years there and loved it.

I have reservations at the Alt Heidelberg. Has anyone ever stayed there and can comment on it?
Thanks!
