Heathrow to Lyon-2 options
Hi, once again I need your valuable input. thanks in advance.
I am flying into London Heathrow on 28 Feb. Arriving at 3pm. I want to get to Lyon as early as possible so I can have dinner in Lyon. Please advise which option is better and the ease of taking the option. Coming home from Paris.
1) Wait in Heathrow to fly to Lyon by British Airways. Cheaper than Air France. But flight departs 1910 and arrives at 2155. Too late for dinner by the time we reach Hilton Lyon. 61 pounds one way.
2) From Heathrow, take train to Paris then connect to Lyon. How does the connection work? Would it be any faster than flying?
Is Lyon a good place to go to in early March? I have 4 days before going to Paris and just want to pick a city close by.

You can't take the train from Heathrow.
You'd have to go to Kings Cross Pancras, take the Eurostar to Paris, and change to Lyon. I doubt you'd come out ahead timewise compared to flying.
Your 4 hours, 10 minute gap between flights will mean you are okay most of the time, but sometimes flights are delayed. If this happened and you missed your separate flight to Lyon, you'd likely have no choice but to fly the next day paying exorbitant walkup prices.
The same is true for the Eurostar, if you bought tickets in advance. Walkup tickets for the Eurostar are generally quite expensive.
How about staying the night in London, enjoying London, and taking the train trip the next afternoon, and enjoying Lyon at dinnertime?

Forget about dinner in Lyon. Sorry.
Stay overnight in London as WillTravel has suggested. The next morning, you may take one of these flights:
EasyJet 7:55 from Stansted arriving at 10:40 in Lyon - early enough for lunch. 37.48 €
Or, if you will be going into a pub crawl in the evening:
BA 13:05 from London-City, arriving at 15:55. 85.12 €
Of course, there are many more options. Book ASAP, as airfare goes up.

Not going to happen. As others have said, you need to go from Heathrow to St-Pancras (an hour on the tube); get on the Eurostar to Paris (2.5 hours, plus another hour between arrival at the station and boarding), where you'll arrive at the Gare du Nord. Switch to Gare de Lyon will take an hour, then 2 hours to Lyon once you board. You could have a midnight dinner, maybe, if everything went like clockwork.

It'll cost you a bunch to get from London to Lyon, even more if you have to stay the night.
Just wondering - why not spend that money on a re-ticketing change fee and find a fare to Paris or - better and closer - to Geneva or even (via a two-hopper) to Lyon itself?
There are direct TGV trains from the CDG airport in Paris to Lyon, taking just barely over two hours (no need to go into Paris itself).
There are trains from Geneva airport (with one switch in downtown Geneva at the main station) to Lyon in about the same time, and Geneva airport is much easier to navigate than CDG.
