We loved the Sheraton SKyline..we were exhausted from our flight to Gatwick from Venice and found great comfort in our meal(room service) and our stay there. We took a cab easily to Heathrow the next day for our flight home. Folks have said you can get it on priceline. We paid 135 #

There are lots of hotels near Heathrow and many of them have a shuttle service to/from the hotel (for a few £ each way) which serves all the airport terminals. Alternatively, getting a taxi shouldn't cost a lot. Most of the hotels are situated on Bath Road (or just off) which runs parallel to the runways. You will find all the usual chains have a hotel along thais road.
I have stayed in a few of them and would also give a thumbs up to the Sheraton Skyline.
If it is just for one night, I personally would think about getting something off Priceline as the prices I have seen others get have been excellent value.

In additon to Priceline, you might check lastminute.com and laterooms.com. You can usually find rooms at the top hotels for very reasonable rates. Be careful about shuttle services. If your flight is very early in the morning, many of the shuttles don't start til 7 which could mean you'll need a taxi.

I stayed at the Novotel and it was fine--the price was £60. The shuttle, however, was late and would not take me to my terminal (terminal 4? I forget which)...I had to schlep my stuff from one terminal to another, actually catching (for free) the Heathrow Express from one terminal to my terminal...it was rush, rush, rush the whole time. In the end, I'm not so sure staying near the airport saved me much time over staying at a hotel near the Heathrow Express train station in London.

Definitely a place to use Priceline. See www.biddingfortravel.com for results posted by PL users, and for pointers on using PL if you're not familiar. Most people are hitting 4-star places for around US$60 or so, v. the typical rack rate of £150+. We got the Skyline a couple of times in April for that price - a great deal.
The "Hoppa Bus" serves the hotels located in Bath Rd. or other LHR perimeter roads - £3 each person each way - a ripoff IMO; the taxi drivers will make a face but they technically have to take you even if it means they go back to the end of the queue. But from the hotel back to the airport, if it's morning and you want to arrive un-frazzled, have the hotel concierge book a cab for you. This is especially the case if you're using Terminal 4 (most longhaul British Air flights) - the Hoppa doesn't go there and the transfer from the other terminals with bags is an incredible pain.

Sorry I hadn't realised to get to Terminal 4 you have to take the Express from Terminals 1,2,3 if you use the Hoppa Bus. I definitely agree the simplest was is to catch a cab from the hotel if you are going to Terminal 4 and vice versa.
I actually use Terminal 4 probably more than the others so I guess I have just been lucky that my Hoppa Bus trips have been the times when I've used one of the other terminals.
