Have you rented from SIXT?

Does anyone have any experience with “SIXT” rental car company? I plan to rent a car at the Cork airport and return it at the Dublin airport. For on economy car for three days I got a price of $120.06 including CDW, theft and drop fee. Even with some unquoted extra fees (and there always are) this is very good price in Ireland. SIXT appears to be a European only company that I’ve never heard of. Thanks

It's a major company in Europe. Same league as Avis or Europcar.

Rented from Sixth in Shannon three weeeks ago. Brand new Ford Focus deisel. What I did not like was you got the car with a full tank and was told to bring it back empty. I argued but they would not change so I was charged 64 Euro for the fuel. In my experience most rental agencies in Ireland, and I have used most of them allow you the option of bring the car back full and they refund the fuel charge. It is impossible to bring the car back empty but I did my best and had to put 2 euro of petrol in Ennis to make the airport. The also charged 20 euro facility charge, many companies include that in their quote. I will not use them again. Have fun

Hi; Interesting, but we used SIXT in Portugal/April and brought the car back with a full tank. But I know how John felt. We had the same problem in France with Eurocar. Try www.carrentals.com/ or www.novacarhire.com/ or www.autoeurope.com/ Dick

My first experience with them a month ago. Was to pick up MB automatic. The only automatic they had was a huge SUV, I had to take it. Then when assured that I could trade it in in Avignon for the C model that i had agreed to, when I arrived they only had a small B model.

They are polite, pleasant but did not deliver the cars they said they would.(Supervisor did reduce price based on lower level car).

Just proves that automatic transmissions are not the standard in Europe. The last time we rented in Europe, they were out of the lowest price automatic we reserved and were "forced" to take a Mercedes. No extra charge!

We rented from Sixt last December after reading about all the problems with extra charges encountered when getting Europcar as the agency through Autoeurope. Sixt was just fine, and the policy for our rental in Nice was that the gas tank had to be FULL on the car's return, not empty.

I have to hire cars in London from time to time for work - have been dreadfully disappointed with both National and Hertz, now rent from Sixt exlusively. They've always either had the car I've reserverd or have upgraded me at no cost (I have to get automatics, not licensed to drive manual in the UK - had to argue with the Hertz guy for a while to have him reduce the cost of my rental when he downgraded me). I've hired 4 or 5 times from them now and have never had a problem - wouldn't hesitate to recommend them in Britain.

Having said that, I've never hired a car from anyone in Ireland, so can't say that the service would be the same, but can't see any reason it wouldn't be.

Also, I've never had to return the car empty - I always fill it up on the way to return it...
