cigalechanta, well I just turned 65 so I understand how you feel. I think you have traveled more than I have. But both of us have been fortunate to do the traveling that we have done.
You have spent a lot of time in France.
I have never been there. My DH always wanted to go to Italy, which of course was not a problem for me. But wish I had been to France. Do not know a soul there. So interested in reading about others experiences, especially yours.
With this economy, the weak US dollars compared to the Euro etc., I find that travelling as much as I would like to is not possible. But next spring I will for sure. What are you next plans?
And question. Have you ever visited San Francisco? A good weekend to you dear one.

Can I be adopted by you LoveItaly and Cigalechanta? You two have the best attitudes. My mother and MIL don't. They only think of the things they can't do and no matter how wonderful I tell them travel is, they think because they are alone, they can't--and both of them are in the fortunate position to be able to afford it! My feeling is great things happen to great people with great attitudes!

Oh, I forgot the reason I posted--it too have had seredipidous experiences. Once in Australia, travelling solo, I got on the wrong bus leaving some touristy site. When I realized this, I asked the driver if he could drop me off somewhere so I could hail a cab and get back on track. He wanted to know where I needed to go so I told him the name of the hotel I had spent the night in. We chitchatted for a bit and somewhere along the line I told him it I didn't like this hotel (it was dirty and gross) and needed to find another. He told me he'd help me out if I could just be patient and let him drop the other passengers off first. Can I just tell you how nice this man was?! He not only drove me back to the first hotel, but he insisted on waiting for me to retrieve my bag and told me he would drop me off somewhere nice and clean and good for 'a young lady like me'. For some reason, intuition told me all was ok and I trusted him. He drove me to really nice building that had short term rental units and walked me to the office and spoke to the manager on my behalf. For what I paid for a dingy room, I now had a lovely one bedroom fully furnished apartment w/washer and dryer! And this driver, whose name I never learned, absolutely refused a tip no matter how hard I insisted. He told me to go have a pint or two and enjoy my stay in Australia instead--which I did, by the way!
