Have you checked fares for 2009??
I'm looking for fares for several college groups for next summer to London, Paris or Berlin and we are consistently getting the $1,500 or more range. I know high oil prices are hurting everything, but this is a killer. Any suggestions? Should I be waiting until later in the fall?

From New York? New Orleans? New Mexico? Newport Beach? Kinda makes a difference.

The airlines are:
consolidating flights
cutting corners in every way possible
considering mergers wherever possible
I would not expect to see ANY sales at anytime to anywhere..regardless of the season.
I would book it now before it gets even worse.

I don't think people can advise unless you say where you are trying to fly from? You can't expect the same airfare from SFO as from JFK, for example.
That sounds pretty normal to me if you are flying from the US west coast, it's about what it was this year, from what I've seen. YOu can very easily get fares lower than that from JFK through any normal search engine (more like $1000-1200) so that's why I expect this has to do with where you want to fly from. The fares I saw from US east coast for next summer were about the same as this summer. I saw a nonstop on BA from JFK to London for only $1000 next July, for example.

We are in Northwest Arkansas and so we use either XNA (Northwest Arkansas airport) or Tulsa. We always covet the east coast fares but have yet to find a fare that makes it worthwhile to break the trip up (from XNA to NY or elsewhere) and then from the east coast to Europe. However, if we could get a BA flight from NY for $1000 (per Christina) that would be worth finding a roundtrip from XNA-NY. We'll keep looking!

Tickets are only bookable 330 days in advance, so the latest dates available for booking at the moment are around July 17. Prices may or may not come down, but it's pretty early to be locking into things for next year. I'd advise waiting until this autumn or winter, and in the meantime put the money into the bank and earn some interest, which is what the airlines would be doing if you bought your tickets today.
That said, for most days in June I can see Chicago - Frankfurt - Chicago on Air India for $841 round trip. London is $40 more due to UK passenger taxes.

Just come up today on my AA DealFinder LHR-ORD-LHR £334 for May 21st returning June 5th which equates to just over $600,it was coming up over £500 yesterday.I should think that prices doing the trip from the US are roughly the same.

We had to make UAL mid April 2009 reservations IAD-AMS return 1 May BRU-IAD in May due to time limitations on our vouchers. Tix were $1122.40 each. Today they are $956.10.
Keep checking prices until you feel comfortable with what is being quoted.

We used Best Travel Store for our trip from Washington DC to Prague and Berlin back to Washington DC a couple of years ago. Everything worked out fine. We still check them when planning a trip, but they haven't had the best price on any of our subsequent trips yet.

Also sign up for fare alerts, several sites offer them. I did that for my June 2008 tickets to Scotland (from Florida), and got an email one morning. They had flights for $800 (including taxes) and I jumped on them. That was late January.
