Hi, Madison. I can understand where you're coming from and I'm so sorry your feelings your hurt by a false friend. It ruins the memories. Vacation romances are so delightful and something to be appreciated, but I learned the hard way (a night in the Corpus Christi jail) that those romances should be left where they belong - on vacation. I no longer give out last name, city of origin, or phone number. (Yeah, like anybody's asking these days - LOL!)

LarryJ, I was joking with you. I'm sure you have the looks and right equipment to be a very successful gigolo. You just need to adjust your tactics. Why waste your earning potential on poor women?

Shanna - I am glad now that I brought up this subject and don't feel so alone.

Can I tell you how I long to hire a private detective just to satisfy my curiosity? But it's not worth spending any money on him.

I was watching a road crew dig a hole on the rue de Rivoli in Paris. (This is the sort of activity that maybe explains why I travel alone!) I wanted to see how far they dug and through what for how long...macadam, cobbles, shells, dirt...what!? A fellow joins me to watch as well. Yes, probably equally weird. He said he was a journalist. Wanted to take me over for a drink. I "demurred", he insisted, he said he'd buy me a coke. I shook my head... then he said "With Ice???" A delicious drink.

what's the song, "I enjoy being a girl..."

Oh boy, the responses on this thread are hilarious!
edovre-I am afraid that I can not only envision the toothless neighbor but have seen her recently !
Yes, SuzieC, a few of us really do enjoy being a girl~ I enjoyed reading your story-"with ice?" - a clever man
Madison,
If you think he was a gigolo, just tuck the experience away as something not that unpleasant and forget about him. If you are still so interested as thinking of detectives, then either keep in touch with him and find out more about him or visit him again, next trip.
I knew someone who did meet a guy on her trip and since then she has visited his home town and he has been to hers. So sometimes these things do work out.
** What if he is being coy about financial/work matters because he is Really Really Rich and does not want some American girl coming after him? If he plays tennis at his club, he might be retired and financially well off**

Borrowing a small amount of money and paying it back is an old con game. By gaining your confidence you are willing to trust him. This is a set up for a bigger swindle.

Perhaps so, JoeG, and perhaps you speak from experience. But I prefer Scarlett's spin on things!!

How do you know that he was a Gigolo Madison?

Usually a Gigolo target old wealthy women that are willing to pay for their services..Not a young pretty thing..

Now , anybody remember Paul Newman film with Geraldine Paige:
Sweet Dreams of Youth? Paul newman was absolutely gorgeous..
Believe me ,I would not mind for him to be my GIGOLO..

Sheila Ritchie! I've met you, and you do not look that way! (I cannot bring myself to use that expression, sorry!)

Now, back to the original question, to which I'd like to respond. Is the Pope Catholic?

;-)

Madison,
How do you think he became attracted to you? Why did he fall on you?

This thread is hilarious--"Louvre Operator" indeed!

I've been "hit on" (just this weekend in Philadelphia, of all places), but the thought that anyone was truly a gigolo never crossed my mind (other than Richard Gere). I'm not old enough or rich enough to be anybody's Sugar Mama.

LOL, I agree with Bookchick, Sheila is no brick anything !!
Beatchick, we are two romantics, no?

I think of either Warren Beatty or that new one, Olivier Martinez in the Roman Spring of Mrs Stone..do you look like Helen Mirren or Vivien Leigh..who was quite pretty, I think

...I had a gigggle recently..I "am of a certain age" and i was walking through the Tuilleries..I was approached by a young man who was probably Algerian..he was murmuring the usual catch phrases..I smiled as I walked past (and later chuckled)..20 years ago when taking the same walk someone with the same line approached me..still wonder whether it was his father!!..another gigolo movie..was it with Katherine Hepburn in Italy..I cant think of the man..??ricardo montabalm..anyway he wasnt at all like anyone ive met!

Even I have become amused by this thread.

Baldrick - Read my earlier post on how we met. He saw me walking down the street, liked what he saw. Liked my looks (his words, not mine) Was interested before we even spoke, or so he says.

Treesa - his name is Salvador and he's from Argentina but has lived in London for the last 20 years. Ring a bell?

Scarlett - I am not the type to be a golddigger so if he is wealthy he had nothing to worry about.

Beatchick & Scarlett - I like your romantic take on things. Believe it or not I, too, am that way. The sad thing is I listened to too many of my friends about his real motives. I just need to remember the time in London for what it was.
