Has no-one stayed in Majorca?

We've just booked a long weekend in Majorca over May Day. Where should we stay?It doesn't seem too popular with Fodorites?

How can you book something if you have no idea where you are staying?

Try the Mardavall Hotel and Spa - I was one of their first guests, excellent facilities and service. Hotel Son Vida is for the golfers. La Residencia is for pretentious people.

Thank you- we've booked the flights and now we're looking for somewhere to stay. Where is the Mardavall Hotel on the island?
With thanks

Stay away from Arenal zone, it's simply awful and touristic.

1. In the north of the island
2. You're right. It's too complicated for Americans and too touristy for Europeans.

Mallorca is indeed touristy, but it won't be so bad in May! You won't read much about Mallorca on Fodors because most of the guests are Germans or Scandinavians.

As for where to stay, I prefer the northeast, from Cala Millor to Cap de Fromentor because of its small hidden beaches and green surroundings. If you want a luxury hotel in a secluded setting, then the hotel Formentor is very reputable overhere. Not appropriate if you travel to Mallorca for its nightlife!
The northeast is also beautiful and in Valldemosa the (small) hotel Vistamar should be very good. The same, though, as above, not if you want nightlife.
Hope this helps.

I have stayed in various places in the countryside, I prefer that to Palma. Palma is a nice town, but it is easy to visit from the country, and outside of it (and the tourist beach areas) you can enjoy walks, bicycling, flowering almond trees and so on. In small villages you don't notice the usual tourist stuff.

A nice place was Sa Bassa Rotja in Porreres (in the center of the island), an old farm (oldest parts from 1200's) turned into a lovely ****hotel.

Another one I liked very much was Son Pont near Puigpunyent. It is an old stable of a little castle that once belonged to Maltan knights. Only four or five rooms and huge living room with old gobelins, paintings, open fire and so on.

Then I have stayed in Ca'n Reus in Fornalutx. Beautiful surroundings and blossoming orange gardens. In nearby Soller I stayed in SÁrdeviu, a small, intimate family mansion turned into a nice hotel and run by a young couple.

Right now I don't remember the names of other ones, but that island is full of beautiful tiny hotels, full of atmosphere. And nothing to do with the picture of touristy destination, quite the contrary. The idea of Mallorca as a tacky place is way outdated, the tourism officials begun their "clean up act" years ago, and not they emphasize quality over quantity.

I have usually searhed hotel from here:

Thank you all so much. The sites suggested by Elina are magical and make me wish I'd gone to Majorca a long time ago.-Or maybe not because I was also under the impression that the island was not for me.We are in the process of checking availability now. Iuion

Frances - I believe you may not have found much on the forum via a text search because of the may you are spelling the name.

If you type "MaLLorca AND hotel" into the text box at the top of this page, you will pull up quite a number of threads.

I loved Mallorca. I stayed at La Residencia and loved it. It is lovely and peaceful. Deia is incredibly beautiful. It is a great place to just relax.

It is Mallorca or Majorca depending on the language you speak.

I stayed in on the north of Mallorca by Alcudia. It was supposed to be the best part of the island according to other people's ratings and was gorgeous. It is not as touristy as the rest of the island. Try looking for a place to stay on the Bay of Alcudia. There is a 20Km beach there. (Largest on the Island) Plus Alcudia is full of history. Be sure to visit Pollenca and Formentor.
