Has anyone stopped at Riedel Glass Works?

We realized that we will be in the "neighborhood of" Kufstein, home of Riedel Glass Works. Is it worth a stop?

Haven't been there, but LOVE the wine glasses. We use them very often. They really DO help the taste of a good wine.

topping... if only for the fact that I, too, would love to hear anything about someone who has been there.

I might just make a special trip if they had a clearance room at $1 per stem!! LOL!

Best wishes,

Rex

Hi abp:

Where abouts is Riedel Glass Works? Sounds interesting. We will be in Austria in October and would probably check it out - if we knew where they are located! Has anyone else found interesting glass "work" places to visit? Sasi

Good quality glasses for daily use. Lalique, Baccarat, and Christofle to name but a few are much more elegant and attractive.

Yes, it is worth a stop. We've been twice and enjoyed both visits. You can tour the actual glass making room and watch the craftsmen at work. It is fascinating. My husband was amazed at the amount of beer that is consumed by the workers, but I think they sweat it all out.

We would go back if we were close by again. There is a great little restaurant down the street too. We've had lunch there both times.

I have been to the Riedel crystal factory many times. It is very easy to reach. Coming from Munich, you get off the autobahn at the second exit for Kufstein. You will see a huge brick chimney with the name Riedel on it. Just go in that direction and you will see further signs. The store not only sells the goblets and asorted wine glasses but they have beautiful Christmas ornaments, candle sticks, and engraved pieces. The restaurant down the street is the Alpen Rose Hotel. It is very good and reasonable.

Hey, Rex, I thought I was a cheapskate! I'd go if they had a clearance room for $25 a stem!
