Colleen, hi again: Can I join you?? Your trip sounds exciting (Le Méridien, Nice!!).
Check the hotels site out: It looks soo good and I am sure it's fine.

www.clarionsaintjames.com

Metro: Tuileries. Rue de Rivoli is very busy, esp. tourists. Avoid the expensive tourist trap shops and cafes there. Go for tea at "Le Bristol" (high class place an oasis) or "Angelina" (always crowed though) or "Café Marly" at Louvre (very hip).
Hotel is very well located. You can walk to a lot of places.
For a lot more infos check
www.paris-touristoffice.com or
www.paris.org

Hi Ursula,

Thanks so much for the response--I've seen their site, it does look lovely. We're very excited! and thanks for the tips on restaurants! I hear we can walk across the tuilleries and catch a bus to Versailles.

Colleen bonsoir! Yes, you can catch the sightseeing busses at Rue de Pyramides (couple of minutes to walk). Very close to your hotel. It's a square with a "golden" Jeanne d'Arc statue and the Hotel Regina! Oh, a nice place for tea is also the renovated "Le Meurice" at Rue de Rivoli or the "Crillon" at Place de la Concorde (real quiet and cosy oasis).
You'll love Paris and can then relax in Nice! Lucky you!

Dear Colleen - My husband and I stayed there last summer (August, 2000) with our two teen-aged children, who had their own room. While the hotel is a bit worn around the edges, the location was perfect; across the street from the Tuileries and a metro stop, just down the street from the Louvre, in the midst of one of the nicest shopping areas of Paris, etc. We were so pleased that the kids could venture out by themselves, even at night, comfortably. If you go in summer, the Tuileries had a carnival going that was pretty, fun for the kids, and a good source of snacks! The rooms were, as I said, a bit worn, but very adequate; much closet space, A/C that functioned well, nice windows to open. The buffet breakfast was fantastic - not just a "continental" affair, but included many meats and cheeses.

Have fun! If you have any other specific questions, please feel free to email me and I'll try to answer them.
