Has anyone ridden the luge near Fussen?

I've read about a luge you can go down near Fussen. It looks kind of like a skateboard. If you've done it, I'd love to hear from you. How steep is it? Is it hard to stay on?

We were here about 6 yrs ago with my parents and 3 children ages 15, 11 and 5.The luge ride is actually a sled that sits in a metal trough so you really don't need to worry about staying on the track or falling off. You have a hand break if needed although it will hold up other riders behind you as my mom did. I'm scared of heights, but I did not find this luge scary at all.We had a blast and I'm sure you will too.

ditto what hotchocolategirl says. On a family trip a few years ago we sought out our daily luge (sommerrodelbahn) rides. Lots of fun.

You have brakes, so those with a faint heart can go as slow as they wish, and the others can go full speed if they wish.

Been there, done that and had a blast. It is right on or very close to the ground. The metal slide part appears to be engineered to prevent you from going off track.

It is a "high" that is not illegal, immoral nor fattening. Enjoy.

Is there just one place in Fussen? Is it hard to find? (I'd hate to promise my kids a ride and then not be able to find the place.) We'll have a car.

Tegelberg is the one near Fuessen I enjoyed.

Here's the link. Click on the British flag for English language website.

It's right next door to Neuschwanstein Castle, you can't miss it if your doing the castle.

Is there a restaurant or snack bar up there? Our entry times for the two castles are 1:45 am and 12:45 pm, so I figure we won't be up there until 2:30 pm and they close at 5 pm. We'll either need to bring a picnic or eat a snack up there.

Hi missypie,
It's neither steep nor hard to stay on both the luge and the track. You are pulled to the top (start) while seated in your "sled" on a track then down you come back to the start. We had a blast on the luge ride (2001, 2003)! Also, the cable car is a very worthwhile trip.

This link should (may) help.

www.tegelbergbahn.de/227.0.html

Under the tab "leisure" is the luge (Sommerrodelbahn)
