Hang-gliders in Malcesine

I was in Malcesine last August 15, and at dusk everyone gathered at the lakefront to watch hang-gliders try to land on a target in Lake Garda. It was unforgettable! I would love to see this again. Does anyone know if this is a regularly occurring event, or did I just luck out and happen to be there at precisely the right time? Also, I didn't find out where the hang-gliders started from -- could they possibly be leaping off the top of Monte Baldo? They were little specks in the sky at first, but kept getting bigger and bigger as they got closer to the lake. As I said, unforgettable!

Dick--where did you stay in Malcesine??
I am looking at accomodations for July and am not sure where to stay. (I had reservations for Limone, but the road from Limone to Riva is closed, and taking the ferry all the time seems really inconvenient, so I want to switch to Malcesine.) Also, do you know if one can jet ski at that part of the lake?

Thanks--sorry no answer on the hang gliding--did you try looking on the www.telmec.it website?? Or sending them an e mail?

Yes the really start at the Monte Baldo (funicularia), the other point is opposite of Malcesine a little bit to the south.
And to Jeannine: have a look at Hotel Bellevue San Lorenzo at Malcesine, we love it every time we stay there. The have a Homepage.

Jeannine,

I stayed at the Hotel Malcesine. I think it was only 100,000 lire including dinner, which was very good. However, my room had a window on the piazza, and it was noisy all night long. But their outdoor cafe has a fabulous position on the lake to watch the hang-gliders or to just look at the beautiful lake itself.

Myra,

I remember that I saw some information and pictures of the Hotel Malcesine on a website for Lake Garda hotels but that I had to send them a fax to inquire about a reservation. But it looks like all the websites are different this year, and I can't find the same info. I did find the Hotel Malcesine listed with a phone and fax number after following some links on the lagodigarda.it website.
