half way between Rome and Milan

Leaving Rome on June 12...kids summer job
outside of Lucca fell through so we are all
returning to Milan the afternoon of June 13
to fly home early the 14th. Question: where
to stay the night of the 12th before heading
up to Milan the next day? 5 kids and 2 adults...we are happy with the more inexpensive picks....We are leaving this
Thursday and I would like to have something
in place before we leave.
thanks.

sb,
I would suggest stopping in Parma. The food is fantastic,& the town is small enough to do the highlights in one day. Then, instead of going to Milan, spend your last night in Como. It's only a 45 min. drive to the airport & you'll enjoy it a lot more than Milan.
ciao,
Tommaso

gb, for your information:
Umbria is not a town, but an area like Tuscany. Most important towns are: Perugia, Assisi, Orvieto, Gubbio, Todi, Spoleto. All worth to be visited.

sb--

If you're leaving early on June 14th out of Malpensa (?) airport, then you need to be ALOT closer than somewhere in between Rome & Milan. Region of Umbria is WAY too far for an early morning flight out from Milan.

A good suggestion is the Lake Como area. Staying in the city of Milan is also an option, but not a great choice for 5 kids & 2 adults.
