Half-Day hop on, off tour bus in Dublin?

Our travel agent threw this option in for free with our reservations for our upcoming trip. I've seen these types of buses in Paris and NYC, but never taken part myself. What sights in Dublin will this bus hit? Is it worth extending to a full-day pass?

The hop on hop off buses are good for 24 hours. There are two operating in Dublin. Dublin Bus: http://www.dublinbus.ie/your_journey..._city_tour.asp & Irish City Tours: http://www.irishcitytours.com/hop_graylinedublin.htm Of course their websites will tell you where they go and the sites they stop at.

I strongly recommend the Hop On, Off bus. The commentary was live on the tours I've been on and the guides were witty and knowledgeable. It's also a great way to get to somewhat out-of-the-way sites like the Guiness Brewery, Kilmainham Jail, Phoenix Park and the Museum of Modern Art.

The half-day pass will give you enough time to do the entire loop, but won't leave you much time to hop on and off.

The hop-on thingies are usually fun and useful and I think Dublin's is no exception.

Don't forget walking tours of the city. Some GREAT tours depart from the Grafton St. gate of Trinity College nearly every day. One tour is a general history of Ireland focusing on Dublin. Another tour is just about the 1916 rebellion. There are also funny literary pub crawl tours and Irish music pub crawl tours. Trinity College also has its own tours that include admission to the Book of Kells.

TIs will have all the details of the tours, or if you pass through that gate there will be info posted on the bulletin boards and probably a guy at a podium selling the tours.

I'd strongly recommend a visit to the fascinating Kilmainham Jail, and as mentioned, it's not easily accessible EXCEPT by using the Hop-on-Hop-Off bus (and I think it's only on one of the lines).

I enjoyed the Dublin Hop-on, Hop-off tour. A great introduction to the city. I actually went on a sunny day, too! Tour stops at Guinness *and* Jameson, btw.

Even if you only ride the cycle once from the open-air top car, its worth it! We enjoyed seeing the layout of the city and the main sights. We did also use the bus for transportation as well.

We used our pass late the first day, into early afternoon the 2nd day and it worked out great - you might want to consider that. Pick it up at say 3PM, then again the next morning until you stop for lunch somewhere (Brazenhead perhaps?)

Enjoy!
