Guys shoes for Backpackers???

I went through Europe as a college backpacker in '97 and felt the pain while walking wayyyy too much in my *new* Doc Marten low-cut leather shoes. They're great, but not the best shoes to wear for 20 miles of walking, especially before breaking them in.

I'm planning on doing the same thing soon, and would love to hear from the experts: What are the best shoes for backpacking in early springtime, hiking the asphalt and gravel of Italy, Turkey, Greece, and hitting a few clubs here and there?

feetdont, I just topped a thread for you. It lists women's shoes, but there should be info at the Nordstrom website as well. Lot o' luck to ya.

I love SAS shoes' Time Out. They look nice and are very comfortable. Need no breaking in. I have put on a new pair and done a 10 km walk without any trouble. They have more sizes and widths than most shoes

thanks steve-- not familiar with that brand. I'll give them a look.

and of course, the Timberlands are always good. [I'll just need a pair suitable for clubs, as well]

Rockports have carried me all over Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. But whatever brand you decide to buy, don't go cheap on your shoes.
