John, Google is Your Friend. I saw your inquiry, know nothing about the woman, I simply put "Koula Papadopoulou Athens" in the Google query slot at the RH top of his page, and up popped a whole page of references, including the following quote from an onlilne journal called "Greece 2003" http://www.avaloncafe.com/Greece/:
"If you're planning a trip to Athens, jot this name down: Koula Papadopoulou (phone 2109574826, cell 0944573714, email [email protected]). We found this lady an *extremely* knowledgeable and personable guide to the Acropolis and the Parthenon ... she teaches history full-time, and she was able to weave centuries of Greek history from the Persian Wars in the fifth century BC, through the Golden Age of Pericles, up to the present day into a fascinating three hours! We all appreciated her enthusiasm and clarity in conveying the highlights of the Golden Age, and by mid-afternoon the younger members of our group were well-versed in the dates, locations and logistics of the crucial battles of Marathon, Thermopylae and Salamis (the last one taking place just offshore from the port of Piraeus). For my benefit, Ms Papadopoulou even pointed out the location of Socrates' jail cell to the west of the Acropolis."
Alas, that is 6 years old. There is another link from a 2009 unesco brochure -- somewhat mysterious, has her name, an address, a phone & fax number, no e-mail, at the start of the google excerpt, but cannot be found in the total PDF Document. It is as follows:
[PDF] ASPnet National Coordinators
File Format: PDF/Adobe Acrobat - Quick View
Mrs Papadopoulou Koula. 1434 Nicosia. Tel.: (+357) 22 800 648. Fax: (+357) 22 800 862
-- alas, that dialing code (357) is for Cyprus. So I fear that the learned Mrs. P has retired, and has gone to the fabled Land of Lemons. ... anyway, it's a tip for you. Always good to start with Google, then come to us if you don't find an answer right away. One thought for you: she may not have changed her e-mail, if she was able to keep a otenet.gr e-mail (as u know, Cyprus is not part of GReece). You might try emailing her and asking her to suggest a successor; she seems still to be active in the field.
A second option -- the general e-mail of the Tourist Guides professional union chapter in Athens : Website www.tourist-guides.gr e-mail [email protected] --but I have heard that people have very spotty results getting an answer from that e-mail.
A third option -- The WWW link -- has a headline in English, "Association of Greek National Guides" -- but the rest of the Home Page is in GReek! and there is NO English version -- only French and German. Pick whichever language you took in school; I chose French. Under the menu item "Contact" it says Annuaire Telephonique des Guides" Aha! click on it and voila!
http://www.tourist-guides.gr/fr/cont...desguides.aspx
... a list of at least 75 guides. If the phone # begins with 210 they are in Athens. They list what languages they work in. about half of them have e-mails. E-mail them all, with your interests, the date you wish, the amount of time you want, what you want to see, the # of travelers, and ask for their rates. Then you can make a judgment.
I wish it were easier. Greece seems to require that our discovery visits be not just a journey but a QUEST -- full of challenges, dead-ends, puzzles to solve. But persevere!! You will reach the castle with the treasure!

thanks, I saw this site too. But, the email is incorrect. Tried the Unesco email, too. Last night I found a gmail account, so I'm trying that. Also, I had looked on the tourist guide website. I do have a phone number, but was hoping I could get an email address. Thank you for your effort.
I do have one guide. But with her background, reviews and a personal recommandation (who only had her number) I wanted to get in contact with her. If all else fails I will call her. I have until November.

I found Koula P in Cyprus email address and emailed her yesterday and received one back from her today. She is not the same person. The person that referred me to her used her this past summer. She doesn't have an email address for her, only a phone number.

Heimdall thank you for your information. In doing business you just assume people have email. I guess we take things for granted in our culture. Some times you do wish for times as theirs. How many time do we sent a good portion of our day trying to get through email.
