Guidance on applying for Schengen and UK visitor visa

Hi our family (myself, my wife and 2 kids) are planning a trip to Amsterdam this summer for taking a cruise.

Here's our high level itinerary -
  1. Reach Amsterdam on 11th July
  2. Take cruise from Amsterdam to Belgium and various ports in British Isles from 13th July to 25th July
  3. Return back to Amsterdam on 25th July
  4. Travel to London from Amsterdam on 25th July - fly back to USA on 29th July
Is there any specific order in which I should go about applying for Schengen and UK visitor visa (we are permanent residents in US)? Can I apply first for multiple entry Schengen visa and then apply for UK visa?

Thanks Bhaskar

You say residence of the US but what sort of passport do you hold?
Read through this.

US passport holders do not need to apply for a visa. The UK is not in Schengen.

I can't imagine that the order would matter.

Hi bhaskar10, welcome to the hassles of a weak passport. Visa processing for the UK and Schengen usually takes 15 working days. A short stay UK visa is valid for 6 months starting from the date issued while schengen visa is valid for 30 days from the first day of entry to schengen area. You can start applying for a schengen 90 days prior to your travel to schengen area and you will need a detailed itinerary for that. You should apply for a schengen visa to the country where you will spend the most number of days.

The Schengen visa is valid for 90 days within a 6 month period, not 30 days.
