gtg at america's cup this week? anyone in valencia?
Here goes another try.
I can meet up almost anytime this week or next for a gtg down near port area, during the america's cup regattas.
We can meet at the Loaded Pig up near the fore deck club in thr activity area to watch the races on the big screen.
I will probably be down there tomorrow, too,in case anyone is already here!
hope to hear from someone!
Anyone ot there?

I can't this week, but we can do it the next, I hope !!
But you will have to explain me better that of the "Loaded Pig", the only thing I know near the beach in Valencia is "La Pepica" , hahaha.
I know it's no good to put addresses here so I give you one I have for those things and then I'll give you the good one :

To the south (right) of all the restaurants like the pepica.. there is an entrance tent to the america's cup area.
you go through the entrance, and then you see a big new modern building in front of you. ( the fore deck club, or vels y vent)
you need to go BEHIND the building, next to the water canal, and go UP to the next level to your left, and there are some cafés up there and a strip of small shops.
One café in the middle is called the LOADED PIG, from new zealand, and we can hang out there and see the boats go by on way to races.
It is exciting to be there from 11 a.m on as they stream past.
weŽll keep in touch. I have to work alot next week but i will defintely be down there at some point if we can arrange it.
anyone else?

yes.. you're right. sorry. what a faux pas.
i hope they finally have their "real" food.. because until now it was just drinks and some spanish grilled things..
thanks for the correction. since i always translate this into spanish for my friends i am stuck on the word PIG...
is it really horribly cold there? th heat here is so exagerrated lately. it is so humid.
your team base is next to my son's (areva). so i get to see your boat and crew all the time. they certainly are keeping their keel a secret with a huge gray plastic drape around the boat when it is hoisted out of the water..(as do many).
this is fabulous.

How exciting to have your son sailing for Areva. Sailing is big time in NZ, as you probably know several teams have Kiwis in their crew, I guess our team's biggest challenge is to beat Alinghi!!!!
Yes, its mid winter and really cold.
Have a great time watching the racing, hope you get to meet up with other Fodorites and the Loaded Hog puts on some good Kiwi tucker.

our son doesn't sail but is the physio for the team along with a french trainer.
this is soooo exciting.
really is worth it for toruists to come here. unfortunately, the madrid government is not promoting these races at all.. at least nothing in comparison to all we did nationwide to support the olympics in barcelona in 1992. most spaniards knew all about the games, etc...
i am ashamed and disappointed that everything must be so darn political anymore . i find it so inmature.
the majority of the poeple outside of valencia don't even know WHEN the races are. nor what there is to do down at the port area.
oh well.
you must have good skiing not too far away. sounds tempting now with this heat oppressing us.

anyone up for meeting this next week?
have decided the Loaded Hog is too hot right now.. and opt for meeting first at 5 star hotel Las Arenas outside on the terrace for a coffee.. and then walk over together to the races.
what day? what time is good?
races start at 2pm. all the boats stream out between 11.30 and 12.30. that is a lot of fun to see.
then another set of races again at 4.30 or so.

claire.. congrats on the visa..
did you ever have one before? i hope the lines in barcelona are better than the ones in valencia. there is so much to do AFTER you get here.. unreal.
the whole process over again, really. every single same piece of paper repeated PLUS get empadronado ( which now can take hours in some cities.)
looking forward to meeting you soon!
i hope kenderina can make it this week one day.
i guess no one else is around here.
valencia is not "on the map" much yet it seems.

lin- this is my third visa and I already know the drill. . . lots of paperwork indeed.
We will meet soon. I might even try to set up something in BCN if you or Patri will be coming through. That might be nice in the Fall.
