Gruyere and Yvoire in One Day from Geneva?

Hi! My husband and I will be staying in Geneva just for day and a half. I really want to see both Gruyere and Yvoire and was wondering if it's possible to see both places in one day?

They are not really in the same direction. Without really looking at timetable ( don't know even when you are going or if you are driving...), I'd say, not enough time to enjoy in a day. Gruyères, a day trip. Another day, see if you can take a boat to Yvoire and return, for a half day trip. Boat timetable is by seasons, winter, april/autums and summer ( summer most frequent ). If you have only one day, then Gruyères + 1 stop in the same direction on the way between Geneva and Gruyères ( by car or by train) would be much easier and enjoyable. Swiss lake side - Montreux - Chillon or Lavaux ?

Hi harlequin,

I don't think that's a good or workable idea.

The journey from Geneva to Gruyeres takes 2h30, each direction. You'll pronably want to spend at least three hours there, to see the castle, the medieval village, and to get something wonderful to eat (fondues or raclettes and/or Gruyeres cream with fresh berries). So that's 8h just for Gruyeres.

Have fun as you plan!

When I was in Geneva for a few days, I took the boat to Yvoire and spent about 3 hours there. It was really pretty, but I felt those few hours was enough as it was pretty small. I did find a little shop that had lavender ice cream that was yummy! I can't speak on Gruyeres as I have not been! Hope that helps a bit.

I have stayed in Lausanne (35min closer to Gruyere) and did a day trip loop to Gruyeres-Chateau Chillon-cruise to Ouchy for dinner. It took a whole day. I would also say combining Yvoire is probably not possible.

Look at www.sbb.ch for transportation timing.
