We are going to be staying at 63 Avenue des Bourdonnais for 12 nights and I was wondering if there was a Monoprix near there or other grocery store.

I know about rue Cler street and it's shops but I also want to visit a grocery store as my parents owned one as I was growing up and I like to see how different they are in the places we go.

I hope I have the right kind of grocery store in mind for you--have you been to the rue Cler? There are a couple of stores there that I considered to be grocery stores. There is also a bigger one around the corner from the rue Cler on Ave. de la Motte Piquet.

I like to go to "Ed, L'Epicier" which is a chain of grocery stores around Paris but I didn't see one in the 7th. (Not saying there isn't one, I just didn't see it.)

On the corner of rue Cler and rue Grenelle where the Cafe Rousillon is located, there is a FranPrix. ( It faces Cafe Rousillon)..
We shopped there everyday when we were staying in our Parisperfect apt on rue Grenelle.

We stayed at the Hotel de la Bourdonnais and there's a little grocery store directly next door to it. Not a big chain store. It had produce and cheeses downstairs, canned and packaged goods upstairs. Not the best produce as I recall. More a place to grab snacks and drinks.

I don't know why this post of mine just on't "take," but here goes the 3rd try:

There's a FranPrix, as noted, ON the rue Cler.

There's a supermarché on the ave. de la Motte Piquet right off the Place Ecole Militaire - very crowded and disorganized, but has just about everything you'd ever want.

Monoprix is not primarily a grocery store, though the large ones have major grocery components.

There's also a grocery store on Rue St. Dominique perhaps a half block or more off Ave. Rapp. There is also a Picard on that same street that has everything imaginable in a frozen form from appetizers to desserts and everything in between! Wish we had something like that in the US! It was fabulous walking through there. We stayed in an apartment on Rue St. Dominique and used the grocery store many times! There is also in that general area of Rue St. Dominique a store called Comptoir Richard (I believe that the name) that has the best coffees to choose from and they will grind it for you also.

That entire area is fabulous!

If you go northwest on Ave de la Bourdonnais and turn right on rue Saint Dominique, there is a G-20 at #118. At #133 is Harry, the Greengrocer, with terrific fresh produce. In the other direction, at 109 ave de la Bourdonnais is a FranPrix.

Be sure to check out Picard at 195 rue de Grenelle - everything imaginable frozen (not what you think) with easy to understand directions. There's another green grocer across from there and a wonderful cheese shop across the street in the other direction.

Highly recommend Carte Orange and riding the buses. There are routes that stop at Bourdonnais/Rapp that will take you all over.

There is a Monoprix in the 7th. I've been there many times but I cannot remember the name of the street. It is near the metro station which is in the middle of the street and it is an elevated metro so you climb up not down. I'm sure you can get the exact address from the phone book or go online and get the store locator. I usually just ask someone on the street for directions.

By the way, Monoprix is not really a grocery store. It's more like a mini Wal mart. Variety store with groceries. Fran Prix is a more traditional grocery store. I usually go to Monoprix for things I forgot to bring, or didn't think I'd need. Gloves, umbrellas, cosmetics. ect. I buy our everday groceries at Franprix.

Grande Epicerie is where I buy lot's of gifts to take home.Beautiful store.

Suzanne, that Monoprix is in the 15th, not the 7th. Avenue de Suffren is the border for those two arrs.

Thanks Travelnut. I was close. I had discovered the Monoprix when we happened to be staying near Unesco. When we stayed near Rue Cler I don't recall seeing the Monoprix, it's all coming back now. We recently stayed near Rue Mouffatard and since Air france lost our luggage for 5 days I found the Monoprix to be a godsend.

I swear by Franprix/Leader Price (you can find both names in Paris, but it is the same chain). Ed is good for certain items. I think there is one on rue Saint Dominique in the 7th.

Both chains are considerably cheaper than Monoprix. Please note that bags are not free at Ed -- you have to pay 3 cents if you don't bring your own.

Thanks for all the info...I was not aware the Monoprix was more like a walmart.

I will check them out I'm sure but will head to the Franprix first.

By the way - you can find all sorts of things using google's mapping function.

I typed <b>monoprix paris 75007</b> into google and hit &quot;Maps.&quot; Try it yourself, and you will see that the above information is corroborated. But starting with google is easier than asking on a board, IMO.

Monoprix is not at all like a Wal-Mart. For one thing, it is not at all the same size as a Wal-Mart. It is simply a variety store which also has a supermarket section, often on a different floor. In some cases, it is not even at the same location -- for example on rue d'Al&eacute;sia in the 14th -- the ordinary store and the supermarket are on different sides of the street.

I knew I shouldn't have used the Wal Mart example but I called it a &quot;mini&quot;. Howeve, it is a variety store that also has groceries. I never shop at Wall Mart but I do love Monoprix. When I walk in the store reminds me of the 5 and Dime we had when I was a kid growing up in the mid-west.

A good apartment should have an info folder with names, hours, and maps to nearby grocery stores, shops, and services.

I really appreciated this detailed info at my last apartment and I feel like this is so easy for owners to do.
