Nope Grindelwald bus apparently only goes to Gtr Scheidegg and not down the valley to Meiringen at least a quick look at the site says - but this small bus can be used to easily get to higher climbes for hiking in areas not served by other conveyances - a private bus Swiss Passes, half-fare cards, etc no valid.

Gotcha. The hike from Grindewald to First is a big climb. Our trek for that day starts in Meiringen, take the funicular at Reichenbach Falls to gain some easy elevation then hike up and over Grosse Scheidegg and down into Grindewald. I'm told there is a Post Bus from the Falls to G.Scheidegg incase we have any hitches.

there is also a postal bus running from Meiringen to the Falls, about two miles or so out of town - we walked as it was our final leg - but yes a postal bus - the postal bus from Meiringen goes first to Schwarzwalalp and that part is covered 100% by a Swiss Pass - but from there to Grindelwald it is only 50% covered - due to steep terrain and higher operating costs I believe - all true Alpine postal buses I've benn on charge a 10 francs Alpine Ticket in addition to the fare - pass holders pay the whole supplement - not sure about those buses however as they are short distance.

Having done power hikes in this area many times one may think the easiest section is when you go down - but after a strenuous uphill hike and then a steep descent constant breaking going down, sometime hopping from a large rock to another on the path can also be fatiguing - so there is also a bus from Grosse Scheidegg down you can hop on if fatigued.

We hopped on this bus from Gross Scheidegg down to Grindelwald. I give a lot of credit to the drivers of these buses. There are approximately 5 million hairpin turns from GS to Grindelwald and the road is not really wide enough for oncoming traffic so it is even more exciting when you encounter another driver. You have to have nerves of steel. It made for a much easier descent though as we were tired at that point.

Yes our footpath at points followed that narrow cork screwing road up to Grosse Scheidegg and yes hats off to those bus drivers - even though a mini mini-bus well done! I'd rather be on foot!
