Greek Tour- Apr '11 w/ Teen
I'm looking into a trip to Greece, April 2011 with my 15 y/o daughter. I'd like a tour group that can bring us to some off the beaten track attractions. Don't want to spend too many days in one place, would love to have an overnight on a boat in the islands, we are foodies and picky new yorkers, so nicer hotels are more our style. I'm aged out of the "Contiki" tour, but wonder if theres a company specializing in younger folks so my teen doesn't lose interest. Out side of a tour, I'd love any suggestions for some MUST SEEs in Greece that will be fun/attractive to a teen, in case I end up building our tour.

First of all, what dates in April? This is critical, if you are here for Greek Easter then that is unmissable, also domestic travel arrangements need to be confirmed well ahead as the whole of Greece is travelling to hometowns, villages & family, it's the biggest & most important event of the year here.
Suggestions can be made once we know that, because it would be different if Easter is not going to be a factor.

Other factors that may be important in your thinking
(1) How many days (not counting arrival & departure days) are you planning on? To make it worthwhile, you will really probably need 10 days Plus those travel days...
(2) Not too many tour groups go to "off the beaten track" destinations; most people who seek out tours WANT to see the famous highlights: Santorini Caldera, Palace of Knossos in Crete, The Medieval Old Town of Rhodes ... not a little mountain village or an obscure cave.
(3) Challenge to find a youngish-people's tour that also welcomes Mom along! If another Fodorite knows of one, please share!
Here's a typical upscale tour that takes you a lot of places in 9-10 days. I only gives 2010 dates/prices, but 2011 might be v. similiar, and Antelope has had good reviews on other forums. The hotels are upscale; only question-- perhaps fellow-travelers would be older. BUt since its limited to 12 people, no "herd" experience, and tons of free time for you & daughter to explore things she would enjoy most. U might inquire ... http://www.antelope-travel.com/ikaros-package.html

I'm planning for the 10 days leading into Easter weekend, including travel days. I'm thinking maybe its a 5 days local tour that I supplement with some stuff I find. Are there areas that are teeb friendly?

On that affordable tour website, I think you have to specify "escorted tour" rather than "guided/hosted tour" in order to find any options.
It may be a difficult week to find the right tour, because Easter is THE major holidy of Greece -- think Christmas & multiply by 3! Every greek who can possibly get away will be going to his family's hometown... people flood out of athens ... Much will be closed from Good friday on. In the past, I've found you can't get an answer to an e-mail from about 4 days before easter to a couple days after.
