Greek Ferries question
Someone mentioned that ferries can go for a couple of days where they don't run because of rough seas/weather. Can anyone comment on this or if it's specific to the time of year?

Does it depend at all on which ferry ine/type of boat your taking? One we were looking at was called the Sea Jet on the greek ferries web site; operating from Paros because it seems a bit faster, etc.

Thanks.

Lori
I'm just starting to look into this myself, but my understanding is that it is the hydrofoils that are more likely to be sidelined in bad weather. The ferries tend to stick to their schedules, which are seasonal.
I believe it was Rex on this Forum
or another poster who told me about an outstanding resource book
"Greek Island Hopping 2001" published by Thomas Cook. Excellent info and suggestions about ferries, and lots of
info on each island, including pros and cons. Not so good for restaurants and hotels, but there are other places to get that info.

Lori, depending on where you are going, another possibility would be to fly. We were able to fly from Athens to Santorini, Santorini to Mykonos, and Mykonos to Athens. I'm afraid I don't know about Paros.

The flights didn't cost nearly as much as I thought they would. But if you are interested in flying, you might want to book quickly. We made our reservations last year at this time, and found that a lot of the flights were already full.

(We booked through a travel agent we found in Mykonos and through Olympic's ticket office in New York.)

Lori:
My husband and I traveled in November and did have several ferry trips delayed and/or cancelled. These ferries were NOT going out of Paros. We were traveling during winter between smaller islands. I would not be concerned about getting out of Paros or any other larger port.
