GREECE, ITALY OR THAILAND?

Hi...I just won two round trip tickets to either Greece, Italy or Thailand and was wondering which destination I should select. Has anyone experience any of these destinations and would give an opinion.

Thank you

I've been to both Italy and Greece (not Thailand); and, even though I'm not at all negative on Greece (I actually enjoyed it there), I TOTALLY agree with the conclusion. Italy is so wonderful in so many ways that it would be hard to beat as a place to go to. The ONLY reason one would choose Greece over Italy would be to see ancient Greek ruins.

All these 3 couuntries are fantastic. But my choice would be a combination of Greece and Italy. Crime in Greece is low, the climate is very pleasant and the cultural "must sees" are numerous. The greek people are very outspoken. They tell you what they mean. But they are honest and friendly "at the bottom".
The Italians are more polite and friendly, and the wine and food has a higher quality. And also here you can experience really culture everywhere. Italy is too crowded in July-september. Avoid Rome at that time of year. Nils

Talk about luck! Three of my favourite countries in the world. We visit Greece at least once a year, and just love the islands Mykonos and Santorini. I can also recommend the islands of Kos, Chios and Crete and Samos for great cultural/historical sites and wonderful relaxing holidays. In fact, we are flying off to Mykonos on Monday, so do not believe any nasty stories about the country. Getting around is easy, not expensive at 303 drachmas to $1 and the food very affordable. True, once your have visited the Parthenon and national museum in Athens, you need not stop over there again as the city is as crowded and noisy as any other major world city.

Thailand is well worth visiting, see the major sights in Bangkok by private car, very affordable at the baht42=$1, do a little shopping in the street markets, and then head out to the islands of Phuket and Koh Samui. The people are not prosperous, but you will have a wonderful time, see gorgeous tropical islands and eat really well for less than $10 per person.

Undoubtedly the wonders of Italy are worth visiting, don't miss Rome, Venice, Pompeii and everything in between. Here we have encountered rude responses and pick-pockets, but if you read up and go prepared, you should have a wonderful time. Italy is quite expensive, and it is worthwhile to search and compare the various travel-guidebooks for affordable hotels centrally located to avoid further expenses. It is possible to pay $85 a night for a hotel in Venice, close to San Marco and have breakfast and private bath included in the price. I would recommend this for all 3 destinations, then calling ahead to make your reservation in person, as few agents will be available to help when your international tickets are already paid for.
Have a wonderful time! I have been to Greece and Italy and loved both. Actually, we found the Greek people to be very friendly and they like Americans. Santorini and Mykonos are fantastic. It really depends on what interests you the most. What cultures interest you the most? Do you want to see Greek and Roman ruins, are you interested in Italian hilltowns and beautiful Cathedrals, etc. Make a list of what you want out of this trip. Bottom line,YOU CAN'T GO WRONG!

Just back from Italy. Was GREAT! Learn a little Italian on the internet...they like when you try a few words at least. Depending upon your time...Rome is great to see the Vatican (St. Peter's and Sistine chapel) and the Colosseum. FLORENCE has it all! It is very easy to get around. They have bikes that you can use provided by the state (near Ifuzzi Gallery). So much to see! MANY MUSTS...the David, St. Croce, The DUOMO (magnificent), and the people are very pleasant. Venice...I thought was OK, but would be on the last of my list. Was interesting to see all on the "lagoon", but was a little too tight for me and MANY people makes for cramped and busy...not slow and romantic like I thought. Pompeii is VERY interesting and worth the stop. Then, if you have time to RELAX--the AMALFI coast is spectacular (between Naples and Salrno)! We stayed in Sorrento and Amalfi with hotels built on the cliffs. Saw the Grotto Esmeraldo...very enjoyable ride. Missed Capri, however, we wanted to relax on the cliff beaches of our hotel and take in the calm sea! Was magnificent. ENJOY!!
I've never been to Greece or Italy, but I have been to Thailand. Thailand would be very inexpensive now with the devaluation of the Thai currency. There are great beaches in Phuket in the south, excellent food, warm weather, nice people etc. The airfare to Thailand would be alot more expensive than the airfare to europe, so if airfare is free I'd go to Thailand

Everyone has their favorite destination. But here are a few things you may want to consider before deciding. What time of year do you plan to travel? Rainy season in Thailand can be a drag. Where are you departing from? We spent several days just getting to Thailand...although it was worth it! How much time do you want to spend travelling? Do you want a beach holiday or do you want more culture? If you answer these questions, I can give you a better idea!
Wherever you end up - have fun!
We're planning on going back to Greece this spring (we like it so much)We just can't face another marathon of flying to get to Thailand!

Hopefully, nobody really takes seriously someone who suggests that you shouldn't visit Greece because '' the airport is a joke''???
(so many beautiful islands, so much culture and history... who would really care about the airport? Actually, it's a good airport, though). Also, all the people are rude..can't be true you know..Greece has actually over 30 million tourists every year..apparently they have different opinion..Greeks have a good sense of humor, which apparently you don't have either..

Rome is a beautiful city though..Milan not something really special compared to Rome..

P.s be positive and enjoy your trip!

You just won plane tickets? I'd pick the one that's normally more expensive to fly to for you.

Greeks are very friendly. It's bizarre to say the Greeks are rude.

The other thing other then getting free tickets you don't mention anything. Your interests are the most important thing. No point any of us pointing you in a different direction because of our interests.
