greece in may
hello. my sisters and i are going to be in italy this may and thought we'd take a short trip to greece from may 10-13. i read many of the comments and am not sure if we should stay in athens or go to the islands. we are all single and under 30 years old, so night life is something we are interested in. will there be any people at the clubs or bars on the islands this early in the season? and which island would you recommend to us? thanks in advance

In May there will be a limited amount of party-type nightlife on the islands, so you'll need to find the most popular one for the best chance. I suggest Mykonos in May for this. You might even be able to find a charter in Italy that will take you directly there, bypassing Athens. Otherwise, book to Athens and then book to your island of choice. If you work at it you can diminish the length of your layover at the Athens airport.
Taking the ferry will take up way too much of your short time in Greece.
Your other option would be to go to Athens where there's always nightlife to be found.

If you really have only 3 nights, I would spend them all on an island. Most likely, you'll have to fly into Athens, then take the next flight to the island. Flights are so much better than ferries. Look into Aegean Airlines.
Brotherleelove was right--it sounds like you would enjoy Mykonos. Lots of bars, clubs, and nightlife until the wee hours. Little Venice is a very fun area right on the water with lots of bars. Not far from there are plenty of clubs. There are even clubs that you have to take a boat to get to (located on nearby beaches like Paradise and Super Paradise). I have never been there that early in May and while things won't be hopping like they are in July, I imagine it'll still be fun. Another island to consider is Santorini (my favorite).

Volare Airlines (based in Venice) has very cheap flights to Athens and from there you can catch a flight or ferry to the islands.
There will be some nightlife in mid-may... Mykonos is good for that. Ios caters to heavy drinking/partying for 20-somethings as does the Pink Palace on Corfu.
