Greece and Italy in 3.5 weeks

I am getting married in May and my fiancee and I have a lot going on until then with our work schedules and relocation. We just decided to go for it -- and bought plane tickets arriving into Athens, Greece and 3.5 weeks later departing out of Florence, Italy. We want to relax for about 5 days in Santorini and then visit Athens for about a day. We want to fly from Athens into Rome and then travel around the AC for about a week. After the AC we want to go to Florence and then see the wine country. Any help or recommendations would be gladly accepted....finding time to work on an itinerary is difficult and since it is our honeymoon I really don't want to fight much with my future husband. THANKS!

Potentially a very nice trip. But, I am confused. Do you want us to plan it for you since you do not have the time? That would take several hours to plan well. Or, do you just want suggestions? Let me start with Santorini--Esperas Trad. Houses in Oia. A great place to start.

Thanks for this suggestion! Any help is appreciated. Do you recommend that we use a travel agent in the USA to help us book hotel rooms and flights from Athens to Rome and AC to Florence? Or do you think we should plan it ourselves?

Good question--it depends on your time and willingness. You can get answers on this forum but that will drag out. I would set your itinerary by dates first. Then, get pro help for the airlines portion. We can fill in the rest for you if you have time to do the booking. Start with the destinations and dates--all else will follow. Google my name for my web site that has some tips. If you get stuck just holler. I am a sucker for honeymoons.

You'll love Santorini, especially the town of Oia. I can't recommend our hotel, but pull up posts by Brotherleelove2004 for several good recommendations.

Check Aegean Airlines for airfares from Athens to Rome. Alitalia also flies this route, but Aegean may be considerably cheaper. Flight time is about two hours.

From Rome, you can either hire a private driver to whisk you away to the Amalfi Coast ( but this is expensive- around $350-400 when I last checked). Or, you can take the Eurostar from Rome to Naples.

Since Naples is very close to Capri, I'd recommend going there first. So my suggestions would be:

Two nights in Capri ( you can take the boat from the port in Naples).

Boat to Positano

3 nights in Positano with day trips to: Amalfi, and the gorgeous gardens of Ravello

Boat or bus to Sorrento

2 nights in Sorrento with possible day trip to Pompeii ( 30 min by train from Sorrento).

Eurostar from Naples- Florence ( Sorrento is about a 45 min. drive from Naples airport.)

Florence-? I would suggest going straight to your destination in the wine country. We stayed in Radda, which is 45 minutes from Florence, and did day trips to Siena and San Gimignano, but you might want to go farther south and base in Montepulciano.

Stay in Florence the last few nights of your trip, then fly home.

Have fun!
