We are taking suggestions for great restaurants to dine at (not too expensive though)in Florence, Rome, Capri, Positano, Sorrento and Siena. I suppose that your question is a little broad, and there may be many good previous message threads on some of these cities. <BR> <BR>Besides the listings for www.timeout.com - - specifically - - http://www.timeout.com/rome/eat/index.html - - I can recommend the following places where I had good experiences in Rome this past May: <BR> <BR>Le Volte - - near the Pantheon <BR> <BR>Carbonara - - directly overloooking Campo de Fiori <BR> <BR>The rooftop garden of (formerly Crowne Plaza) Minerva - - the hotel is now under new management (just in the past month), and it is a little expensive (had a brunch there, not a dinner), but does meet your criteria for great food and a nice atmosphere (unless the weather is too hot) <BR> <BR>and (if you do feel like splurging, because this is VERY elegant - - and priced to match), Vivendo in the mega-opulently newly refurbished St. Regis Grand hotel at Piazza della Repubblica. <BR> <BR>I trust others will take your question and run with it for other cities, as well as additional suggestions for Rome. <BR> <BR>Best wishes, <BR> <BR>Rex <BR>

Rome- Vecchio Roma, Giarosto Toscano, (Sp), cafe Guila, carbonara, just about any place is better than we find at home, was disappointed in the well known place we tried in Trastevere,can't recall name at this moment, a senior moment AT ITS HIGH POINT!! <BR> <BR>Florence- Cibreo, Da noi, Villa San Michele(Fieosole)

While in Florence: <BR>Trattoria Bibe! FABULOUS food, lovely atmosphere. Our best meal the whole trip. It's not right in Florence, but a 10-minute taxi ride near the Galluzzo district and definitely worth it. Was in Rome this past May and ate at Gusto (it is listed in the Fodor's restaurant rant & raves) - the meal was great, Italian fusion. After so many nights of traditonal Italian food this was a nice change. Great space - beautiful people - very popular with Romans - make reservations.

In Siena - Cano & Gato (the Cat & Dog). A family affair where you come in and eat whatever it is they're cooking that night. The food was FABULOUS. Very small dining room and a pivate type affair. I think we had six or seven or courses over the course of 4+ hours and loved every bite. It came highly reccomended and lived up to it.

La Sorelela, in the Isola Tiberina, in Rome. Very cozy, wonderful food, it's a family restaurant, they all work there. Not cheap, but not expensive regarding the quality of food. Superb!! <BR> <BR>

In ROme we loved the restaurant Picasso on the top of the Hotel Rafael--great view of the city! Very romantic and a little pricy but worth it.

The best food in all of Italy is in Napoli 9naples) so Sorrento will be the best eats for you..the further north you travel in Italy, the more Americanized the food gets, not theres anything wrong with America, but you're not coming here to taste what you could find in your b=very own zip code...

We had one of the best meals of our (long) lives at Arnolfo's in Colle di Val D'Elsa between Florence and Siena. Great food in a perfect setting against the wall of a hill town overlooking the vineyards. Magic for about $180 for 2. <BR>BTW - We didn't find the food at Cane y Gato in Siena to be all that special.
