Great Price for Ireland Car Rental
I've booked my car for my upcoming trip (in and out of Shannan) and wanted to share what I think is an exceptional price. I reserved a economy car (Fiat Panda) from Jan. 31 thru Feb. 11 for a TOTAL OF $130.47 (US). Went with AutoEurope:
http://www.autoeurope.com
This rate does NOT include CDW -- but with my Citibank WORLD MasterCard (that gets me American Airline miles) I have coverage for this. When I called Citibank to verify coverage I was told that ONLY the "World" card provides coverage in Ireland. Frankly, I'm not sure how I even wound up with a "world" card -- but I'm glad I did; this provides a savings of more than $100. But even without this, they seemed to have a much better rate than others.
I rented with this company last year and had no problem -- but the price (in N. Ireland) wasn't nearly as good.

Songdoc, Congrats on such a good rate. They are practically paying you to drive the car. Your credit card company gave you wrong info. My Capital One Mastercard still covers CDW in Ireland and it is not a World card. Each person you talk to at those credit card companies will give you a different answer. Call again and see what I mean. I am glad yours covers. Fewer and fewer do today.
Did you get all your cottage rentals?

IrishEyes: thanks for your response.
I think the credit card company meant that at Citibank MasterCard -- only the "World" card includes CDW coverage in Ireland. I didn't mean to imply that no other credit card offers this coverage.

Ran into an odd situation with "The Thatch." After agreeing to honor the price shown on the web site -- a subsequent email said they were not willing to do so. After that, they were having computer trouble and we were unable to communicate by email. It's still the best deal -- but I'm a little uncomfortable with them switching and I'm rethinking my accommodations.
If I'm able to get the "last minute" rate of 170 Euros (total for two -- with breakfast)at Dromoland Castle, I may stay two nights at Dromoland; extend my stay at Couminole Cottage in Dingle to 5 nights, spend a night en route and look for a hotel or B&B for one or two nights in Co. Donegal -- instead of a cottage. I'm eagerly waiting to hear back from Dromoland Castle.
When the holidays are over I'll get to obsess about the trip and no doubt, will have lots of other questions to post.

Near Killybegs, try Oceanview. http://www.oceanviewhouse.info/ Haven't stayed there yet as my favorite in the area has closed, but it gets great reviews and the views are stunning.

Wojazz, I'm going to continue the discussion about where to stay in Co. Donegal under the "County Donegal Suggestions" thread I'd started.
Thanks for the suggestion. It looks beautiful -- but I'm pretty sure I've decided I want the privacy of self-catering. I'm probably going to book the Thatch Cottage that I'd previously discussed.
