I had to take driving lessons in order to get a German driver's license. My instructor had to tell me *repeatedly* (no, I didn't get it for a looong time) to slow down BEFORE the speed limit sign. He told me I had to be going 50 kph AT the 50 kph sign, not slowing down at that point.

So I would say that locals don't know this instinctively but know it by instruction and by law.

I must say I did a double-take at the title of your thread, mamamia2, since I hadn't encountered many slow drivers in Spain. I have nothing constructive to add to this but good luck and please share how you ultimately handled things.

In 1969, my roommate and a friend had a rental car as part of our England/Scotland trip. We had a terrible time trying to find parking and to move the car when time ran out and got many tickets. The day before we left London, we took our pile of parking tickets to City Hall to pay them (this being before the internet). The police person looked at them and I quote, "Yanks? Oh don't you worry about these tickets. You Yanks helped us win that war. Don't you worry about a few tickets. And he threw them in the trash."

I've returned twice since but no one has mentioned it. Again, well before internet records.

Awenthomas, there is no point in digging up posts from several years ago, especially when all you have to say is to engage a speeding ticket lawyer. They don't exist in the USA, except to deal with U.S. tickets, so your advice is useless.

there is a load of information about how to pay speeding tickets in Spain on TripAdvisor. Maybe in a few days time I will post a ink to it. In the mean time happy Christmas one and all, including the Spanish Guardia Civil.
